L300 faulty Turbo

Good day!

Am I the only one in this community that has not just once but twice the turbo plug pop out from 2 different brand new turbos? Well the second one was 3 years old.

This is very annoying. Do you guys carry a 2nd turbo all the time with you guys?

The Mitsubishi turbos I've seen come with that plug welded in place:

I can't see any evidence of broken welds in your picture, so I'm presuming that's an aftermarket turbo. I'd weld a plug back in place rather than buy a whole new turbo. You might want to check your exhaust too, there might be excessive backpressure from a dented pipe or internally collapsed silencer.

Yes I will have a new plug inserted and welded on one of the 3 turbos I have at home. 2 brand new, had about 5000km on them. One has a pretty deep crack in the housing (not the turbine part) and the other one is leaking oil. At ranging between 400$ and 600$, you'd expect them to last longer than that.

So again, my question to you guys was, am I the only one to have such issues with turbos? Am I the only one that have to change them every couple of years?

Not sure about everyone else, but my original turbo is 23 years old with 250,000km on it, and still has very little play in the bearings. I only replaced it because I was upgrading to a larger turbine and thought I might as well fit a new turbo at the same time. Turbo failure doesn't seem to be something people talk about a lot.

whag are your egts? With that kind of failiure (cracked housings and such) i would be looking at how hot you are running..
