Hey Joe,

The L300's are becoming harder to find (as you're finding out) so are holding their value. I have a 1991 that I am selling, but because it's 25 years old am considering selling it states side where it will sell for more. As for your question of 300+K for $6000 it all depends on how well the van has been cared for and what work has recently been done. I've read on the UK forum of vans well over the 500K mark and still going. A well taken care of diesel will last a long time so 300K is not an obscene amount. There is lots of good reading on here as to common problems in the L300 which will give you an idea of the questions to ask any seller. My '91 is currently sitting at 315K and has never run better and I've owned it since 84K, but I have put a lot of love into it to make it that way. By love I mean money ;-). One way to look at it is diesels need to work in order to stay healthy, so a 25 year old van with 150K sounds awesome, but if you break that down by km's drivin per year it's only 6000K/year. This means a. the van sat for a long time in Japan rotting or b. current owner doesn't drive it very much which is also not ideal. The only reason I'm selling mine (tear runs down face) is because I purchased a '99 L400 and also own a GMC diesel van and one has to go. Long story short, if you really want an L300 don't shy away from looking at the 300+K vans there may be a gem out there.

Hope this helps and best of luck.

This is my first post. I'm also looking for an L300.

My driving style is that I total maybe 5000km/year. I'm wondering if the L300 might be the wrong choice for me since my vehicle is driven maybe once per week. Definitely once or thrice per month if I happen to have it. This includes sharing the vehicle with my partner ;)

I like the idea of more maneuverable, simpler, shorter for parking in the city, more space compared to SWD L400 (IIRC??) ...

I got rid of my Chevy Blazer which I travelled many backroads upon for hiking and "camping" away from the vehicle by foot. I cycle commute/~200km tour for 99% of transport needs; however I would like to return to some backroads journies with the assistance of a L300 Delica van. I was originally shopping for a subaru or toyota wagon (4wd or not) with the intention of just going as far as I can then mountain biking with a BOB trailer the remainder. But being able to do winter camping and live part-time out of a van would be useful.
