While settling into a deep slumber, drool and all, I was awaken by the sound of the horn from my van. At first, it was like someone was playing with it, tooting it on and off - only really fast. Then, it just stuck on, waking up the whole neighbourhood. After wiping the drool from my mouth, I ran outside expecting to find someone in my van, but no one was there.
Either my van is possessed by Kit (or Herbie the love bug) and was protecting itself, or there is a problem with my horn. After rattling it loose, I removed the fuse so my family (and neighbours) could get some sleep.
Anyone have this kind of issue and have some suggestions about fixing it? I recall something about the foam wearing out...
Thanks!

You have the Horn (eee) ghost......
Your right, the foam in does degrade to powder inside the horn. Taking the horn apart is very easy, I cleaned the old stuff between the metal plates then used thin packing foam to replace it, after going Rambo on it with a hole punch and a glue stick. Have to press firmly to work the F/U button now, which we prefer to the way it was before; you looked at the horn wrong and it went off.
Good Luck

Re: Me so Horn (eeee)
generally you would replace the horns themselves (under the vehicle remove the front most skid plate and you should be able to see the 2 horns.)
You can buy all sorts of different sounding ones, including the dukes of hazard ones (available all over the internet)

Re: Me so Horn (eeee)
I changed one horn in the Moon Machine to a klaxon horn (antique car horn) which is similar to the 'oogah' sound of the dive alarm in submarines. It is similar to this:

and sorta sounds like this:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Image:WWII ... klaxon.ogg
According to the Motor Vehicle Act of BC (and the other provinces probably have similar legislation) a vehicle must be equiped with a horn that can be heard from a distance of 60m, "but no horn shall emit an unreasonably loud or harsh sound or a whistle". As for the 'Dukes of Hazard' melody horn, not sure of what would be thought of that.
When I put in the klaxon, I retained the duplicate horn which was still fitted, as a backup.
As for changing the 'sound' of the horn, electric horns come in a variety of notes. Smaller vehicles tend to have higher-pitched horns, bigger vehicles, lower-pitched. If you want an air horn with two horns, I've got something for 45$. Bought it and then found the klaxon - want to buy it?

when I pulled off that front skid plate I found a tri-tone air horn that a previous owner had installed, it wasn't connected though, I have since re-connected it so that I have both it and the original electric horns.

Re: Me so Horn (eeee)
This was my first piece of Delica maintenance. At first the horn was hypersensitive, then it started going off over bumps, then it started going off at random, all the time. I pulled the fuse to calm things down, which involved looking in the owner's manual then matching up the kanji with what's on the fuse box. On my Delica this also killed most of the exterior lights; YMMV.
The horn assembly was clipped in on one side, with a retaining screw on the other. I took it apart, removed the dead foam, and put it back together with the two contacts spaced with new foam, with a hole in the centre to push the outer contact on to the inner one. Works fine.
