Early April WVO meet???

Post by Manitoba Delica »

Hey folks, I'm going to be heading Westward at the end of march. I'll be around the coast for a few weeks. This will be my opportunity to pick some brains, see some other setups, figure out my WVO plans, etc... I heard mention of a meet on the 30th of march.... Is there a chance of one near the begining of april, on vancouver island, or Salt spring, or wherever is convenient to those interested. I'd love a WVO meet, just so I can soak up the advice, get my understanding of where everything connects etc.... As well, I'm hoping to get a tune-up/check-up/preventative maintenace while around experienced mechanics.. I hven't figured out who can solve the bigger issues that may come up in Manitoba yet... LEt me know where you're at if you're interested in meeting and sharing advice... chow

Hey Man.Deli,

I've already asked about local interest for WVO meet, not much response but it's usually like a snow ball effect... Once people start showing up interest more join up as well. So when you're in town I'll hook up with you to learn more on WVO set up and hopefully the ones that already have the system installed will accept to share their knowledge... And I don't mind to travel to the Island if there's more interest out there...

Next question, who's interested to learn more on WVO (and go ahead with the install) and who already has theirs set up and burning wasted oil?

If I remember, there was Adrock in Richmond, myself in Burnaby and SpyderCS (Vancouver?) that were interested in going ahead with WVO, anybody else?

Then for the pioneer that already went through all the pain (and pleasure) to convert their bus there's Adam in Nanaimo, Kevin (BCDelica) in Powell River, EricN in Coquitlam, Josh in Smithers, Sean in Courtenay... who do I forget?

(We should probably move this topic to WVO forum...)

I'm a Delica newbie with, admittedly, limited mechanical aptitude, but one reason I got the Delica was for the WVO option. I am very keen to learn from some of you out there that have done the conversion or are planing too. I saw Vancouver Island mentioned as a possible place yet most of the respondents are mainlanders; Fair to assume then the lower mainland will be the location of choice? Thanks.

Hi,

I'd be interested in a meet on the island if there is one. I'm a biodiesel producer and looking to get more info on veggie installs.

Hi Kuan,

Nice truck you got yourself!!! And even more adorable is your daughter!

Personally I don't mind to meet on the Island but I guess it's wherever we get the most interest or the most help available! It's never been done (that I know of) a WVO meet so hopefully it will work out. April shouldn't be a problem, especially if it's to accommodate a fellow Delica from Manitoba...

We need people that already have their WVO show up 'cause it won't be very instructional if we're only a bunch of wannabe... Where are they hiding?!?

Nice truck Kuan, but not cuter then that gal. Kuan, do you brew at home or in a coop?

EDIT - count me out, I totally forgot that April 5th is my wifes birthday. Shame, would have loved to be able to attend.

I am brewing a home for the coop... THe coop is mostly a buyers coop. There are about 10 producers and 80 coop members. The coop now has a pump at a cardlock just outside Duncan. I am currently working with the coop to get the biodiesel to ASTM standards.

There are also WVO members and the coop supplies filtered WVO. Not sure of the price at the moment.

I met Bjorn the wvo installation mechanic who is in Cobble HIll at a coop producers meeting. He seems like a good guy and may be able to be convinced to come along if the meet is on the island.

But I agree, where ever the most attendees are located makes most sense. Perhaps we could carpool over or something.

Ok, Let's set the WVO Meet date now. Friday 4 April evening, OR Saturday 5 April morning 10am. Not the previous weekend , as the Harrison Delica Convoy Weekend is on, and Marameisto is organizing an island meet.

Location Burnaby, as central spot to include Fraser Valley Folk. If less than 8 Delifryers will show, then meet will be at our house, Burnaby 2 minutes off Gaglardi Freeway exit. If more than 8 Delifryers show then we go to Princess Auto (10 minutes drive from our house, actually in Coquitlam near Ikea) , as that's where EricN suggests for lower priced good quality pumps etc. Huge Parking lot, clean washrooms, and Winners etc next door for family shopping.

Manitoba Deli , you are welcome to stay overnight(s) at our house, secure backyard. (same invitation to other outa-towners, first reply gets the guest room, next get the the sofas). Those coming via ferry who dont want to bring Vehicles, we can do a car pool pick up from Horseshoe Bay (45 minute drive from our house).

Yes? Please ? Rice-Crispy squares from me ? Let's just do it, we can always organize a 2nd meet for those who can't make this.

EricN, Delicat, Kevin BCDelica, does either date work for you?

Cheers, Christine and Jay of the TardisDeli (very curious, seriously ready to convert).

Great timing! My family and I are on vacation in both the Vancouver and Chilliwack regions at that time. I am hoping to test drive some Delica's while out there. Maybe I can work in the meet depending on where it is.

Same here, if anyone need to be picked up from the ferry I can take care of up to 6 people as I drive one of those great JDM vehicle that seat 7 people, is 4x4 and... 8-)

I can also arrange for an extra room or two so Kuan, kevin... if you need a place to stay or anyone else, just PM me. The more the better!

As usual Christine steps up to the challenge to organize it, thanks again! But as mentioned before, if there's more interest from the Island and the Okanagan folks don't mind the extra distance than I have no problem doing the traveling. But it's coming up soon... might need to stick to Christine's plan!

Ok, the invite is open.
cheers

Alright folks!! I'm stoked that I'll meet some of you and get to pick your brains on what you've learned so far, and what you recommend. I'm not sure where our family will at April4-5, but if that is the date, and that is the location that works for everyone else, I'll make it work on my end. It probably would mean extra ferry trips, because our family is mostly visitng on Saltspring, Hornby, Quadra, Victoria and Sooke. We don't know too many people in Vancouver.... I'm just glad for it to happen while I'm there. Thanks

Love to meet everyone but making the trip over the mainland won't work for me. Hope everyone shares some good info. As diesel prices climb it only makes sense. It is now cheaper to buy canola from the store than to pay at the pump. So even if your WVO supplier is not always available, there is a cheaper and more environmentally friendly option.
have fun.

Hey Sean, where do you get your fresh canola from? For curiosity's sake I check out the cost for a cube of oil at Costco every time I'm in there. Just yesterday I notice the price jumped $5 from $20.99 to $25.99 per 16L cube which works out to $1.63/L. That's a crazy increase, I'm wondering if the recent national focus on biofuels has driven up the cost.
