Post by redmond »

OK, I've looked and searched everywhere yet cannot find a part number for brake shoes - pads yes, shoes no. Somewhere I found K6686, however I have no idea what company (and ususally the part numbers are 3 digit and not 4. Anyone...?

at the risk of sounding like an idiot...

does "set" mean for one wheel or for both?

(just to save my dignity a bit, let me point out that the mech work I do is on motorcycles, where it's always for just one wheel)

A set would be for both wheels.

Talked to DB Aldous today - family business three generations! - and they carry our pads - number 524 (same number as Raybestos equivalent).

They can re-line your pads or sell you a set. There is a charge $5 for the cores if you don't bring in the old ones.

The price quoted today (may change with time) was $34.20 (set of four).

I spoke to Mike Aldous (604) 876-2226 (mdaldous@shaw.ca). He said they are doing quality of work that is higher than most these days, been in the business for 60 yrs.

They also have a fellow that does installations out of a shop next door on a cash basis.

The impression I got is that this is probably one of the best kept secrets.. and that this mom and pop shop could use the business too. Mardy's recommendation goes a long way but I'm adding my own.

UPDATE!
Okay so these shoes were not a perfect fit. That is, they are the right shape and size, but there are three holes in the shoes that don't line up. Two of them I easily added with a drill press. The third is a rectangular notch which would be a tedious addition to make by hand (but not terribly hard with a drill and file approach).

So I called DV Aldous and they wanted to find a solution. They asked for a set of original shoes so they can match it up. They also offered to re-line the original shoes.

If anyone has a spare set of shoes I can show them, lemme know. This is a great local supplier and I've been pleased with their willingness to accommodate Delicas and other imports, so I'd like to help them get the right parts on hand.
