Model differences for a newbie

Post by The Pinkfingers »

Hello - We are new to the delica.ca forums... We don't even own one yet.

After our usual minivan conked out, we've been looking for a new vehicle and got on to JDM through a friend. We narrowed down our search to Delica or Toyata Hiace, and would like to find a Delica. We've looked at a few but are still looking for "the one."

Can someone explain to me if there is any difference to the Exceed, Super Exceed and Chamonix. Are they all L300s?

Finally, how likely are we to get a lemon? We own a lemon right now (which is why we are looking for a different van), and are a little gun shy.

Been browsing the forum for a few days now - we like the community.

Thanks

Hi and welcome to this forum!

Here's what you're looking for. It's located in the FAQ:

As for lemonade, these vans are really reliable and there's a strong support community as well as parts and garage. Just make sure you do your homework!

Good luck!

Thanks delicat. One more question about doing my homework - what should we be looking for? I understand the stuff for which one would look on all cars, such as body rust. But is there something of which we should be particularly aware? Are there common problems on Delicas?

These vehicle were typically pretty well maintained in Japan. If nothing has been done you'll have to do a full maintenance (compliance and all fluids, belts...) If you buy it used chances are somebody already did some or most of it for you.

The fuel pump is pricey ($600) to rebuild and has a tendency to leak. If buying a crystallite the shades often don't work properly. If buying a low roof with rear moonroof they are prone to leaking (the moonroof). But for the rest they are just great and reliable vehicle.

Happy hunting!
