Tires - BFG AT's in the rain - Your experience/opinions

to be honest, this is the first I've heard of the nokian vativas, previously the only nokian tires I'd hear about had been winter tires rather than all terrain.

The reviews I've read so far look promising, thank you for pointing out another alternative!

I don't care what I read or what anyone says, the latest compound (AT KO's) on the BFG's wear amazingly slow on all kinds of driving and there is nothing that I have tried of know of anyone that has logged a lot of mileage that fare better than the BFG's for tread wear life.

All else being equal, long tire life comes from hard compound, and hard compound has less grip than soft compound. So tire life and traction are on a teeter-totter, one goes up and the other goes down.

I haven't had either, but I do have Bridgestone Dueler AT Revo LT 235/75 R15 on stock rims. I'm not impressed with their snow performance, Green1's much smaller all-seasons match them for snow-on-ice offroading. And on Calgary's icy roads they aren't very good, the back end kicks out without trying very much.

Haven't tried them in real offroading yet. They are the only tires I've had on the Delica, so have nothing to compare to. Bought them based on reviews. From what I read here, the Nokians are my next choice.

Jesse, what I read in your posts is that you really don't like the BFGs in the rain, which you get often where you are. You seem to be trying to convince yourself that the BFGs are okay. Re-read your own posts as if they are someone else's and see what you would advise him/her.

You're right. funny way of looking back and what you end up typing out.

I prefer other tires over the BFG AT KO's because of the poor wet traction I've had in a few different vehicles sporting them.

It could also be that the weight/load ration front to back on the vehicles may make a difference. That's something I'm not sure about which is why I was wondering why so many Delica's have them on that I've seen around the lower mainland.

Either a) they are not good in the rain as I have experienced but many don't know better as they haven't had anything else on a Delica
or b) the load spread out over the Delica on the tires make up for the lack of traction I experienced in other vehicles (ie. Jeep,etc.)

That was my original intent in the post.

On another note, the Paj performed well in the snow/slush in the past 2 days (up n down to van/whistler and around) with the ProComp AT's.

I'm happy with them on this particular truck.

No idea where you would even buy these but here is what I've got... Nexen Roadian All Terrain II (ATII).

I had never heard of nexen, checked the ratings and reviews when I got the delica with a new set of them on, good ratings so I left them on.

I go all sorts of questionable on and off-road places with them and so far I have been very impressed! snow, ice, mud, sand, slippery rocky creeks, etc. have all been good.

If you don't think they look agressive enough maybe try coating them in mud, works for me :)



Not half as agressive looking as Adrock's BFG MT though :) I'll probably upgrade to something beefy like those once mine wear out.

BFG At's: Well I cannot make a claim as to how good BFG at's are in the rain I can say that they are spectacular in the snow. Here in Calgary where it only snows in the spring, they have been very good. If you drive up north in Alberta and BC you will see most of the 4 wheel drives sporting BFG at's. They lasted forever on my Ford explorer and jeeps, I have a set on my Pajero and they are a good all around tire. I especially like the 3 ply sidewall, I really abuse my tires as I do a fair bit of off roading. I have only punctured them once in the sidewall. (15 years of off roading 1 ford, 4 jeeps, and 1 Pajero) Everyone has a favorite tire. For general 4 wheel drive use I like the BFG AT.
