Nissan SD25 Diesel motor - import suggestions?

Post by after oil »

my other car is a 1987 Nissan D21 with a 2.5L SD25. (on WVO) unfortunately they only made it one year and only for canada. it can be tough to get parts, but theres always one in japan. $$$ and long wait.
i really like the truck and i want to keep it as my 2nd vee. i have a spare engine (in fact i was gifted a whole truck for parts, same colour too!) i may have rebuilt (or rebuild myself)

i am also considering trying to find one in japan, new or newish and bring it over (maybe in the back of a delica?) the auction house that helped so kindly to buy my van never responded to queries about an sd25 motor import.

ideas?

I think you'll find opinions of all sorts about this sort of thing, but my understanding is that you could do this as long as it is claimed an the appropriate duty and taxes are paid. Of course it will require someone lining this up for you on the other side of the pond. Some people would say that anything loose in your vehicle is an open invitation for thieves, but I'm not sure how many cases there are of people losing stuff out of their vehicles when they are shipped over. These companies, if they want to stay in business, have to protect their reputations. If it were me I try it.

Just out of curiosity, give a couple of Nissan dealers in Washington state a call with a few parts you may be looking for.
From what I've heard often it is easier to find parts for unusual vehicles down in US than Canada.
Shorter wait than import from Japan.

Also, I remember my mechanic had one of those p/u's in his garage, he was rebuilding the motor, but he did have to wait a couple weeks for parts.
Not sure where he got them from.

my truckk was never available in the US.the auto stores in WA cant really help, ive tried. some marine stores are okay. i did manage to get a piston once from a shop near bellingham, but they got it from ohio and i had to go down and get it.

i think what i want is a newish engine.
