Hey there,

I'm new to this forum and am very interested in getting a Delica. Just wondering what to expect and which importers to use. Were you guys nervous about getting a vehicle that you've never seen in person? I'm kinda weary about that. Any info would be helpful. Thanks.

Used an exporter myself and once I found one that I was confident would do a good job all was good for me and I got a van that was in better shape than I expected. My son picked up a Pajero from the same exporter and it's in very nice shape as well.

Which Exporter did you use? Did you get any kind of warranty. Like if you picked it up and the head gasket blows. What then?

Actually, Mardy isn't an importer for retail but I know he can point you in the right direction and save you a lot of money (I think he's wholesale) as well as getting your Delica serviced and running like a new car. He's got good contact in Japan and can walk you through the process.

He'd also be my first choice for help and advise. And yes, it's quite scary to buy a vehicle unseen from Japan and the wait for it is horrible!

Sounds like Mardy's the man with the plan. I won't be getting one for a little while but I can't wait to get behind the wheel of one. These vans seem to good to be true. Has anybody tried to run them on veg oil?

I got Gumdrop through Japanoid. I took their demonstrator for a test drive, Shogo sent me some pictures of a candidate vehicle for approval, I gave him a deposit and took delivery a few weeks later.

Full dealer service history and Shaken reports (albeit all in Japanese...), all service done before leaving Japan (including timing belts), all OOP compliance done and inspected, here are the keys and go get some license plates. Just like buying any other used car.

Zero hassle. Nice van. They do extremely well in Canada, and I feel Mitsubishi missed a major opportunity not selling them here at the time.

Just one thing, that occurred to me on the way to work this morning.

A few Mitsubishi products were sold in Canada in the early 1990s. But they were sold though Chrysler. Would you have bought a Dodge Delica? How about a Chrysler Star Wagon?

We're buying our Deli through Japanoid as well. Same experience so far - took one in the lot for test drive, Shogo sent us pics of one in Japan, we put down a down payment, and now are waiting for it to be shipped over. Once it is here Japanoid gets it up to BC specs, does a pretty good over all maintenance package, details it, and voila - we have a shiny Deli in our driveway. It also comes with a free 90 day warranty, which is 60 days longer than any other place I've seen.

Also, I like the fact that they, like some other dealers, have their own people in Japan who actually go look at the vehicle before buying it, so you know there's a better chance it will be in the condition that it says it's supposed to be in.

I definitely like the less hassle of buying through a dealer rather than trying to import on my own or get through an importer and arranging for maintenance and inspections.

someone on either here or the UK site linked to a picture recently of a Dodge L300 that is being sold in mexico starting next year, looks just like our delicas except low roof, gas, no bull-bar, and the front "grill" (where the mitsubishi logo is located) was replaced with the standard dodge grill... looked a little odd...
