I bought a "PYLE" 150w inverter and tried running my computer and dvd player off it. The inverter kept shutting down to protect mode. I returned it and bought a 300w. Same thing and then blew the lighter/tempgauge/and clock fuse. Anyone???

300w inverter for most laptops is too small.

You can't really cheap out on an inverter (my experience) others may chime in.

I had a cheap $30 cambodian tire inverter and it almost caught fire up in Tofino. I threw it into my tupperware bucket of salt water (washing/rinsing wetsuit) and it stopped. Freaked the crap out of me.

Nothing wrong with your Delica. It's the inverter. With those, you do really get what you pay for (quality/build internal components)

It's not the size of the inverter thats the problem, it's the size and length of the wire to your lighter socket. In other words your lighter socket doesn't have the capacity to power that big a load. You need to wire your inverter direct to the battery with a fuse and the right guage wire.

Thats a drag, I was hoping to use the lighter and not have to run wires under the seat. So a 300w inverter would be fine if I have it wired properly?

The typical cigarette lighter socket and under dash wiring in most vehicles is only capable of supporting up to 8 DC amps (100 W) of current while maintaining at least 10 V at the inverter end of the DC cable. In some vehicles, even a 60 W light bulb cannot be operated due to thin wiring in the dash. Starting the engine will raise the system voltage at least 1.5V and may just allow your appliance to operate (when it would not operate with engine off). If you find this unacceptable, or you intend to use the higher power of the inverter, you will need to hard wire the inverter directly to the battery.

I found that I had to get a 600 Watt inverter wired direct to battery just to run my 17" notebook computer. In the long run that wasn't good enough for the Deli, and I had to go with a 1750W so I could just get on with it and run an impact wrench or whatever.

Be sure to choose your wire guage carefully. Here is an example of what the wire that goes to my inverter looks like (the grey one):
