Waste Motor Oil as fuel for the WVO Delica

Post by BCDelica »

Has anyone else tried this?

Didn't take long too collect 15 gallons, in a olive barrel using mine and a friends oil changes, then process it. Doing so at the end of my processing filters life, but with more people purchasing washable filters and centrifuges it may be more viable. More so if a coops involved.

I did this over a year and half back, it ran IMO the quietest of any fuel we've tried in our vans.

Regards,
Kev

No, I haven't tried it, but I have been collecting my waste motor oil from my changes, hoping I could use it for my future waste oil boiler. It sure would be nice to use now. All you need to do is filter it, and run it in your WVO tank?

Good way to reuse a waste product and cheap, but not so good for the 'ole carbon footprint thing. This coming form a guy with no wvo system yet... :?

Are you simply filtering it down to an acceptable level and then pouring it in, or are you doing the methanol mix thingy in order to dilute it?

Sounds promising and less bothersome than bugging restaurants to get rid of their veggie oil...

I pretty sure most places that have waste engine oil have been getting paid for it so some time, my dad owns a yacht repair company in Sidney and they where getting paid for all of their waste fluids at least 5 years ago 10 cents a liter for oil.

I have burnt about ten litres of the the waste oil from my Dad's Toyota. It just looked so clean after his oil change I threw it right into my diesel tank. No obvious side effects and a savings of,well lets see, 10x $1.45(yes it is, arrgh!) =$14.50. Not bad.

I burned though 8 full tanks in my 2.5 Pajero.

80/20 mix of 10w30 used oil and fresh diesel from the pumps.

Burned clean and drove great.

A tad more smoke and a bit harder in the winter starting but not enough to really notice.

Test #1

Went through a full tank of -

80% ATF recycled from transmission shop
20% Diesel from the pump

Runs stronger and got better mileage by 1.2mpg. (this was on our trip down/up to WA)

Will test on 2nd tank as well (currently driving on it daily)

This is an old diesel trade secret I picked up from a rig driver/mechanic. Very clean and high lubrication properties.

Hey!, Just curious what the results were after running the second tank?

That was a while ago. Switched back and forth between 100% diesel , 50/50 veg, and recycled oil.

It's all around the same mileage.

Lines look clean (internal spray/pressure test) and runs great.
