the dangers of boredom

Post by delica 304 »

Was driving by a muffler shop and said,"why not, the pipes are starting to rot a bit"

More money than I care to admit to spending later,

Magnaflow muffler, 2.5" stainless pipe, side exhaust. Wow! What a difference! It's a bit noisier than before, but could also be because the pipe is a lot closer. You can hear the turbo wind up nicely!

Here's another shot

they added a heat shield to the muffler and shot some high heat paint on the welds to help protect them.

The nice part of your system is that they eliminated all of your down pipe which leaves you with a 2.5" pipe by the connector flange. Lot's of place (like where I got mine done) simply leave up to 6" of the original down pipe so that they don't have to enlarge the connector flange (just quicker, easier and cheaper) but that creates an initial restriction. Also, they used connectors instead of welding at the muffler connection, makes it easier to replace/adjust your install...

I'm not sure why your system ends up being louder? Mine is almost quieter than the original which was still in good shape (only reason for side exit, aside from boredom was to alloy my veggie tank install).

Good work!

I had the work done at island muffler in beautiful downtown Victoria. It cost me about $450, which isn't actually too bad, once you compare it to the price of a new factory exhaust+ installation.

As for the noise, I do recall telling the fellow at the shop that I don't really care if the new muffler is louder, just as long as it breathes better than the factory job. I don't mind the extra noise, as now the Landmaster sounds like an APC! :-D

If anyone is wondering, here is the inspiration for the name "LANDMASTER"

Behold, the original:

You have to admit, apart from the twelve wheels, there is a certain family resemblance!
