Visiting Ft. Nelson took us about an hour including a brief presentation performed for two of us and another couple in a Visitor Center. According to the story told us by 2 young presenters the city’s history was pretty simple: it was established as a trading post in 1805, destroyed by the fire, built again, washed out by a flood, and then rebuilt on the higher grounds where it stays.
The sun was going down and heading out of town we decided to take a break and ended camping overnight at Andy Bailey campground. It is located 28 km southwest of Fort Nelson and 16 km east of Alaska Highway on a gravel road. The campground looked like an abandoned place with two of us and another young couple from Alberta. After all it was not bad but mosquitoes were eating us alive until the night fell down.
The next day we met our friend in Fort St. John and he brought us to his favorite viewpoint on hwy 29; it was a stunning view of the Peace River and the surroundings.
