Flex,

I agree fully with Green1, my Deli was $9900 as I've said before and is a real stunner but it also had 110,000 Kms on it. I'm absolutely love the vehicle and work on it constantly to improve it, I've already had people approach me and offer me far more than I paid. I even had one guy at the ski hill (Mt. Washington) swear that he thought is was a brand new vehicle off the lot and thought it must have cost between $40-50K.

That having been said, now that I know the vehicles a little better I would have jumped at the chance to get the unit Jungle Jon got for $15K and I honestly think it's a steal. As far as those two absolute premium vehicles Wayne sold for 15 and 17K respectively they were absolutely worth the money these guys spent. By definition as they just sold for this amount that's what they're worth -- that's called capitalism!!

Until Uncle Layton and his leftist band of loonies get to power and sets up the "Ministry of How Much Profit You Can Make", that's the system we're in.

What surprises me more is the vehicles that I don't think are in particularly good state on nick that are going for $10K. I've seen individuals walking off the lot where I bought mine, paying nearly the same for half the vehicle!! From this perspective it makes Wayne's vehicles look like a steal!

So endth the rant! :D :D
Cheers!!

Andy

couple of points i would like to make:
what made Land Cruisers so valuable was not only their reliability but their uniquness and rarity. Land Cruisers flooded the market when this craze started. The LJ series killed tainted the reputation of the Land Cruiser with the heads dying on a frequent basis. (do NOT buy a LJ or LN Toyota)
when i started importing Cruisers you could pick up a nice HJ61 for $3600 and now the HJ61 in premium shape will fetch $12,000 in Japan.
the highend Delica has quadrupled in price since i started importing them and the ultra-highend Delica fetch huge money. the 2 you are chatting about were wanted by other dealers in Canada so the bidding went up and up and up to a record high selling price for Delica in Japan.
delica with spoiler:
7800 purchase price (with auction fees and shipping in Japan)
300 pre-shipping prep
2600 Shipping by container (X2 units 5200)
300 destuffing charges (X2 units 600)
520 rail
75 trucking
165 OOP inspection
100 appraisal (appraised at $22,000)
54 registration fee
350 CD/MP3 player install
300 pyro install
650 new tires
450 new oversized exhaust
500 detailing and rust proofing

+ 20% profit
= $16,996.80

if we can not make at least 20% profit then we will shut the doors. there is a HUGE difference between a low end or middle of the road unit and the ultra highend units.
if anyone feels we are gouging the customers then i am very sorry.

(ooops, forgot to add to the list):
DOT head lights $450,
DTRL $60
and of course a portion of the profit goes towards running IVOAC

Your honesty makes us all warm and fuzzy inside, glad to have you aboard Wayne. I mean it, it's great to hear professional dealers being straight up on the cost of the premium units. I would love that one with spoiler but the time I spend on gravel and the brush I put ours though, I couldn't do it. My work one was perfect, dented roof=cheap price, and you can't even find rust on the bottom side. Still can't believe that I undercoated a vehicle that had a FOB under $1000 Canadian. The WVO tank is off a 2002 Jeep YJ, which looks horrible compared to the Delica's dirty side.

You should move out to lotus land, save on those rail charges.

Three hundred bucks for a pyro! I want two, maybe Glen will do it for me, your just too far away. I paid the same for a custom larger exhaust, well worth it aren't they.

Kev - might sucking up for future purchase advice on a 77 cruiser.

that is important, don't buy a high end unit for off road use. you can buy Delica with "mods by mother nature" for a lot less.
as i mentioned before my 80 lb hairball keeps me out of the highend market, it just does not make sense to spend the extra just to watch it depreciate over night.

if i was getting a unit for off road fun i would look for the grade 3.5 / C interior with higher km and a 5 speed and low roof. you should be able to score one of those for about $9000 (or MAYBE less). i would gut the interior and hippoline it, this way if you have muddy feet who cares. i would add steel expanded steel to the bullbar to rad space. get rid of the AC and the AC rad. add a real bumper mounted solid to the frame with a 8274 winch, reloacate the air box with the snorkel.
increase the boost and add propane injection, larger exhaust and a locker to the rear diff (i would leave the front open for reliability)...small lift and 33 skinnies...
<maybe>

Hey, that's my list for mine; cept the locker cause of the high cost.

I have been thinking of a home made snorkel routed through the interior, up and out behind the rear seat, then up through the roof; and a big ram air intake scoop mounted above the drivers seat. All the snorkel plumbing would make a nice spot to mount the LCD screen.

I was thinking along the same lines but moving the actual air box inside the cab with the snorkle tube made out of stainless and a mandrell bent top pointing out the back on top of the roof...the only down side is with a snorkle run up to the top the noise form the engine sucking air is LOUD (experience on Mis Jeeps and Land Cruisers)
