Sagging roof/cloth liner ? Fix it.

Post by jessef »

If you've ever camped/slept in your vehicle or have a lot of condensation in the winter from heavy breathing, then you've probably experienced the 'sagging roof liner'.

Happens in all vehicles at some point.

I've seen some Delica's (mostly one's on car lots) for sale with sagging roof/crystal shutter liners.

Usually one of two ways it happens :

1. Internal condensation from below the ceiling, usually from camping/sleeping/breathing inside the Delica.

2. Leak and/or condensation from outside (usually rust/cracks in the roof)

Two ways to fix it :

1. Remove the headliner/shutters that are 'bubbling or sagging' and peel the liner off. Then spray the 3M onto the mating surface and a few very light sprays on the cloth itself (liner). Wait for a bit and then mount it. You made need to use a plastic or squeegyish something to smooth out the little bubbles.

2. Leave the headliner/shutters on and take an exacto-knife/blade and made a cut as close to the edge where it meets the trim as you can. Peel back and repeat above 1. instructions.

Leave it to dry (in a warm place if possible).

I suggest to do it in the spring time, or if you have a heated garage or somewhere warm and dry.
