Brakes are Failing

Post by Manitoba Delica »

HEy folks, My brakes have recently and quickly lost their power. Over the course of a few days, I have to pump and then stomp on the pedal before it has an effect. I checked the fluid level right away, but it seems fine. If it is my pads, do I need to use Mitsubishi parts, or are there locally available parts?? If it isn't the pads, could it be bunk fluid that has to be replaced. How is this done??? I'm sorry if these are ridiculous questions, but I've never had to deal with brakes before... Thakns for any help...

if it's really cold you may have water in your fluid and it is freezing.

bleed your brakes first before you replacing anything

cover for the reservoir is on the right side of the dashboard (drivers side)

for brake parts go to any shop and ask for mitusbishi montero 1988 brakes

I have not looked into the delica but wouldnt there be a vacuum booster that gives assist to the brakes? Maybe he has a bad vaccum hose or pump?

If you have a Manual transmission it is possible for the fluid reservoir to appear full when it is actually not. Since this reservoir is also the one used for the clutch cylinder it is split and can easily look like it is full when only one of the sides is full. Have you had a red exclamation mark appear on your dash display (even after e-brake is off) If so go back and be certain that reservoir is actually full.

Andy -Good tip on the reservoir on Manuals thanks!

Manitoba Delica -What jfarsang said is good start, bleed your brakes.
If you never have had to deal with brakes before and don't want to
be a greasy gus, take it to a shop.(like right away)
The parts if needed are readily available.
Brakes are brakes they are not from outer space (just look like it)

Any Brakes shop should be able to help you.

Your emergency brakes works well too, right?

Right on :?
