A.C. head-scratcher

Hey out there. I hope someone can help me with a sticky ac problem. My 91 delica cools ok while under way but at a stop its not so
good. I live in Mexico most of the year so its a bigger deal for me. The ac fan in front of the rad is not coming on but the one under
the drivers feet is. I assume there is a fuse and relay for each but don't know where. I have looked behind the glove box and all the
fuses there seem ok and I unplugged the three 20 A relays one at a time to see if it turned off the running fan (identify through proccess of elimintation) but only got the AC clutch to kick out. Does anyone have a AC wiring diagram and fuse map for the system?
I just spent 2 hours scouring the web and got nada. I can't even locate a set of manuals to buy. Please help!

unfortunately the AC system is the one (and near as I can tell, only) part of the vehicle that does not have a manual floating around...

try checking all the normal fuses (by the driver's foot) as well as the ones you already checked behind the glovebox, also check all the connections by the batteries.

On my Delica there are two condensers and 2 evaporators, one receiver/dryer/strainer, one hi press port,one low pressure port, one hi press switch and one lo pressure switch and finally one compressor. The cooler under the drivers feet (my right hand drive) is actually an automatic transmission cooler. Yours may be different.

Evaporators for cooling inside air are located back and front. Condensers are front of the main radiator and under the pass feet (outside of the van). The receiver/sight glass is found below the pass side evaporator (below 2 ac lines exiting passenger floor at sight glass rubber plug) under the carpet. The low press port is at the compressor and the high port above it on the other (hi press) line (hard to see but feel for it). The expansion valve/ front evaporator/relays are located behind the glove box. The low press switch is located above the forward condenser and the high pressure switch also under the van but at the rear evaporator.

Your vehicle may be different but that is mine in a nutshell. You may visit me in Coquitlam and I'll run you through the operation and test procedures. I have pics of everything but not enough time now to post in the wiki.

IMHO the condenser fan is your problem. Disconnect the power and ground wires to the (main) condenser fan (access from forward and under the van), check for a short to ground and if okay power the fan externally(keep hands clear and turn off the AC). Don't attempt this unless you have a basic understanding of automotive electricity. If it runs the problem is elsewhere.

I had the same problem, the electric fan in front of the rad wasn't working. It turned out to be one of the inline fuses behind the glove box. There's three of them, it was the far left one.

This is the photo I sent to Glen at CCauto to show what I had found in behind the glove box of my deli. I hope its helpful to anyone messing around with their ac control. My van is a 91 exeed low roof with dual zone ac. They should all be similar if not exactly the
same. Below is the system description.

Ok Glen problem solved(Bad relay solenoid ground) on realy F1 (main condencer fan). I have labeled this stuff and thought it might interest you. Right upper relay C with two dots Compressor
Middle upper relay F1 with one dot main condenser fan
Lower left relay F2 with one dot secondry condenser fan(under passenger footwell)
Fuses Left side two dots compressor
Next to left one dot secondary condenser fan
Third from left one dot main condenser fan
Loose black wire is rerouted relay ground.
Feed wire from realys to fans both solid blue looked like 12gage
Out put temp dropped from 64 f to 52 f when main fan kicked in. Thanks for the info hope you find this helpfull.

So... Im searching the boards and decided to revive and old one here...


My a/c is not working, go figure. The clutch is not engaging on the compressor. I have not tried a manual bypass, but I did a hand test and the compressor spins freely. I also did a half a** job of checking the system, just on the low side tap and it is reading full. All of the fuses are fine.

Am I missing something here? Any thoughts?

Make sure there isn't an overcharge situation, it will lock the clutch. Check the inline pressure on the low port.
