At least it is less outrageous than the mpg claims being made by Chevrolet/GM on their new vehicles.

Re: 35 - 40 MPG !!!
I'll second that. If I use GM's calculator, my l400 gets 55mpg, and my suzuki carry gets 86mpg

Maybe it's nautical miles per U.S. gallon?
Maybe this is why hardly anybody bothers with such nonsense any more.

Re: 35 - 40 MPG !!!
people frequently lie about MPG on the Delica, the usual claim is 30-35...we all know that's wrong, but what can you do. Even many dealers claim these same figures.
My average on my L300 after over 20,000km was 11.6 l/100 km my lowest was 9.4 and highest was 14.2
I would believe an average as low as about 10 l/100km, but anyone claiming an average below that either has too few data points, some major fuel-efficiency mods, or is most likely lying.
(on a side note, if your average is above about 13 l/100km, I'd say you likely have a mechanical problem of some form (or an extremely heavy right foot))

Yeah - that type of craigslist crap pisses me off.
I bought my deli on the basis of mis-information / misundertanding / and quite honestly a lack of research.
I just had to have one....so - I'm taking full responsibility, and still have no regrets....but, I was quite shocked my first few weeks of owership at the mileage I was getting relative to my expecations.
Anyway - I am on the North Shore which means lots of hills - but average city driving is 15L/100K, average highway is 12L/100K.
She's been checked out top to bottom - rebuilt IP etc....I don't believe I'm hard on the pedal...but clearly I must be compared to many other drivers.

Re: 35 - 40 MPG !!!
I believe you also have a lift and larger tires, correct? that will decrease your actual fuel economy, but more importantly it will decrease your precieved fuel economy. The larger tires mean that you go further than the 100km that the odometer says you do, your figures probably aren't as bad as you think, though not as good as they would be with smaller, less aggressive tires.Anyway - I am on the North Shore which means lots of hills - but average city driving is 15L/100K, average highway is 12L/100K.

Yeah - I figured that would be the result Green1 - but my first year was with stock tires and that is when I took my original readings. I was pretty bummed out.
I've since done the lift and added the tires - and get the same readings much to my surprise. Now, I too thought that the speedo is probably out - so maybe shouldn't be surprised that I get the same readings, but the funny part is that my GPS still reads the same as my speedo and those cool little signs at the side of the road on the Squamish highway seem to peg my speed correctly too. I know it's not "scientific" but all indications are that are under any conditions - my beast is a bit of a pig compared to most others - I've just had to come to terms with it.
oh well. Worse things can happen....
