Am I an idiot

Does your Mitsubishi L300 make a strange noise? Need wheel alignment specs?

Am I an idiot

Post by lost1 »

Ok, so after not solving all the problems with the glo plug relays and all that stuff etc etc. I bought a heavy duty starter button and wired this directly from the + battery terminal to the glow plug bus bar. It worked great for two days and then......

NO spark at the glow plugs. Did I just burn out all my new glow plugs. I paid a ridiculous price for these plugs

My offer still stands, if there is anyone in Eastern Canada that wants a Delica, contact me.

Maybe be a silly question but are the glow plugs 12 volt? I have run into oddball stuff before and they were 6 volt (must have had a step down at some point)

Not saying this is the problem just a thought?

The glow plugs run on a 6v system and will blow with 12v feed applied to them . The most likely cause of the glow plug system failing is the glow plug control unit behind the drivers seat (In behind seat belt) . Hey lost1 I have a used set of glow plugs I can sell you cheap if you need them , but the control module has already gone out of this van .

Yep, 6 volts. That would pretty much sum it up. I am an idiot. I really would like to step down the voltage or buy 12 volt glo plugs, because I am not really in love with the 2 relay setup. Any ideas how I can step down the voltage from 12 to 6 for my plugs. CC Autos, I may take you up on the offer if I can`t fit a 12 volt plug somehow. I am sure I toasted my new (and bloody expensive) ones.

You might be able to match it up to a NA vehicle with 12v glow plugs, not sure who would have a good stock of them though. It would make sense as we have had a few problems with the relays playing up in delicas.

apparently the glow system on the delica comes in (at least) 2 models. Most of the ones we have are the higher end vehicles with the "quick glow" option which is the 6V plugs (they actually run very briefly at 12V to warm up quicker and then revert to 6V to run properly...)
if you found one of the "standard" systems it would be 12V plugs...

Hi, there , as many 6 delica i fix with this glow plug system, there are mostly 6.2 volt, even you have exceed or super exceed 5 spd or auto they are the same quick glow system as green 1 said, i have some coming soon maybe next 2 weeks or earlier. it seems you change the relay, i think you maybe made a mistake putting it together. it happen to me before, i burn one set of relay by putting the wrong wire on the relay. cause when you are facing it when you change you think its o.k. but when you put it back bolt it in its different wire that goes to each other, it happen to me 1 time but i study it & finally find a way to fix it. little bit confuse but need more patient & understanding. try to locate the right wire for sure soon you can fix it. hope this help
Cheers:

haven`t managed to find 12 volt glow plugs. Still looking into some sort of a step down from 12 volts to 6 volts. Open to ideas as I am not too eager to burn out my new plugs again...
