Can Anyone Shed Some Light ?

Hey all,

I have been having a biatch of a time with cooking my combination switch ( actually 4 to be exact) Glen at CCAuto will be putting all of his kids through medical school with the money Ive spent on these things.

Now I have scoured every schematic known with regards to L300's, Pajjies and the like. What I am in search of is the headlight relay. I can find it on the schematic, but do you think I can find it on the van............no such luck.

The 4 relays on the drivers side kick panel up under the dash was where I read it was suppose to be turned out wrong.

Does anyone know where this lil bugger is sitting , as its my last thing to test to see if in fact the relay is hooped.

I did come across 3 slo blow fuses in behind the glovebox, and 1 was blown ( 15 Amp ) with white wire one side and black on the other. I've added a few pics to these 3 fuses if anyone knows. Myself and my slush fund would be truely greatful.

Those relays are all AC related. The three left side fuses and the relays run the AC clutch, main condenser fan and secondary condenser fan. In my 91 at least. Sorry but I don't know where the headlight relays are yet. Suerte.

PS I just noticed you have only two. Does that mean you don't have the rear AC unit or only one condenser fan?

Thanks Green n Mod for the info on the A/C fuses/relays.

I threw that stuff in off the cuff. I still need to locate the headlight relay. I was talking with Lazybrownfox ( should be lazysilverfox ) and I told him I was going to rip out the dash and start disconnecting every relay I could see then start hooking them back up til the lights came on. Might as well take pics of the adventure for you guys who need to do wiper system work, or master cylinder changes.

I can't figure it out. With all the delica's sold in the UK or other english speaking countries it kills me that we can't come up with a
proper set of dealers shop manuals for these things. It would be so much faster to find and fix with the right set of books. Let us

Hey - I suffered from a similar problem - for me it turned out that there was too much load on the system. I recently had a new DRL module wired in, new headlights (Depo vs. Soueast), and lower watt bulbs for the daytime running lights. So far so good. I don't have enough familiarity with the ins-and-outs of the electrical system, but from what I understand, the overall load of the system was too much for the combo switch, which caused it to die multiple times. Since the upgrades etc, everything has been good. You could chat with the guys at Coombs Country about your specific problem to see if an upgrade to the DRL unit could be in your future.

Did you actually bake the combo switch to where it melted the teflon/plastic pointer at the end of the turn signal? It gets to a point where you can actuall feel the warmth on the plastic colum shroud.

I have Depo lights. The bulbs are one of Jesse's recommendations. And as far as a DRL goes, I tossed that whole setup 15 minutes after I bought the van ( deal with it naysayers). And as far as talking to Glen, well, its a business.

I talked with Tardis Jay today in between casts on the Vedder , and I think he may have a sollution for it. Thanks for taking the time Quad. Gives me more to think about that might solve the problem

The combo switch did not melt, but it did get hot and emitted this totally bizarre smell (not a typical burnt circuit smell). The most recent repair involved re-soldering all of the connections on the combo switch. Together with all of the recent changes (DRL, headlights, lower watt daytime running lights) things are good - have been holding for ~ 5 weeks.

Did you happen to measure the amperage coming up to the circuit board ? Thats what I think I'll do ( well Jay may if I ask him nice ) before I make any changes. Just waiting on my new combo switch from Japan.

No - I didn't measure the amperage - too many things were going wrong so I deferred to the experience of Glen and his crew. They did indicate that there was too much load overall.
