does anyone on the forum know if it is okay to take a RHD vehicle to the states and Mexico? Any challenges? W're planning on going down in December, don't want to get to the border and find out there is some quirky law that says you can't get there from here (in a RHD vehicle).
Any input much 'preciated!

Re: Truckin' - Info please
Living away from the border and having been south once I can't say I'm a expert; but when down in Birch Bay last month the USA custom guard had a usual Delica response - "Man, wish I could get one of those wild van's."
Seems other fellows have cruised all the way to Mexico, have a great trip!

going into the states no problem mexico haven't been in my delica but talk to lost1 I don't think it is an issue. when you come back to canada, keep a copy of your export certificate and recipt that you have paid all duties on the van. you don't realy need them but just incase the customs officer asks for them. the reason is to prove that you didn't buy the van while on vacation. I know you have BC plates and all that but it is a good idea to keep that paper work with you, last time I went I was told this by customs. other than that enjoy the trip!

Re: Truckin' - Info please
i've been stopped going into canada and leaving. Never once said anything about the van, but i'm sure they wanted to bend me over for something. Its not an issue, except one border conversation...:
Border lady: whos vehicle is this?
Me: Mine
BL: well then why are you driving, (to my friend in the passenger seat)
Me: What?
BL: why is she driving your vehicle?
Me: She's not
BL: oh...
most of the time its: "who does this vehicle belong to"
-"me"
-"how old are you?"
-"20"
-"please pull over to the side and bring your id in"
This has only happened once on the way into the states, 2 times on the way back but the vehicle was searched then...

Anyhow, I have had no problem at all when driving down to Seattle... and when we crossed in Osoyoos the border guy was super excited about it and asked all sorts of questions. I was shocked he didn't detain us in order to give him reason to have a real good gawk at it! All in all it was no problem getting in or out of the USA.
