New rack, what do you think?

Post by EnviroImports.com »

we built a new rack with Removable side mount ladder , rack is 4x8 with 12"of that being a built in wind deflector with tool box storage built into the front wedge, the owner is a pretty hard core Downhill bike rider and has a North shore bike rack pretty permanently mounted to the back of the van, so wanted a side mount ladder with some style to allow access to the roof rack when the bike rack was Loaded down with bikes. cross bars are our designed 1x3 thick wall aircraft aluminium , a new tool lets me sink threaded fittings into pretty much any material so the side mount ladder is easily bolted to the rack, and also to the body leaving only a perfect little round threaded flush mount fitting.

Looks great, I like the side ladder (was thinking about building one due to bike rack)

Aircraft riveter? The one that puts a threaded rivet in the hole? I love those! The bike shop I worked at years ago had one (shop started out as a British Race car builder and became a cycling shop with time??)

Remind them about centre of gravity as it looks like it could hold lots!

And GVWR 4 downhill bikes(70lbs each) +8 adult riders (175lbs each) +100lbs bag each up top= (or 2480lbs)

Thats brilliant,

You should post it on the Australian Delica site.

I think they would be really impressed.

Love the side ladder. Is it resting against the body panel or the tire. Where does it store? Clip onto the side of the rack or stored inside the vehicle? Can you provide a slightly larger picture for better clarity?

Im a bit limited by what size I can post and am not great with photo editing software, I bought a new mac that is suposed to be so much easier , but I really miss my old XP that I knew inside and out...

Any way, I guess I should have said the ladder is Semi permanently mounted, its bolted to the body and the rack with flush mount receiving hardware , so it is removable if she wants to take it all down, and only sticks out as far as the mirror, so down by where the body is folded at the wheel well, its very strong as there is a corner just below where I mounted it, so the weight is all taken by the roof rack and the bottom mount keeps it stable ,one of my welders went up it several times and if he can do it (big boy), then the 120lb owner of the van can go up it with 100lbs on her shoulders.... also the top of the roof rack is open at the back, Closed at the front so it wont whistle, and either tent poles or what ever else she might want to put in them as a reciever to be used for Tarping the back of the van or a bit of an awning when wanting to be camping or stay out of the rain/sun....

I posted a pic of the round tube cross bars for L400's on the UK site, not as a for sale add, and under own name, and it was all great, people loved them, and when people were posting they wanted to buy them, the moderator pulled my picts and sent me a pm slapping me on hand for trying to promote a business, but not until people offered to buy them.... so feel free to post a pic of you like, but I posted there just to see if a larger L400 crowd liked the work I came up with and some how it got political so....I really just wanted to see what a larger L400 crowd thought of my design... but what ever...
.
Well after my 5th attempt the pic is now 799 wide and its still to large to post but the page keeps saying it must be under 800 wide..., so I don't know how to post it. a larger view is shown in my welding page @ www.enviroimports.com
