Raising Rear End

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Raising Rear End

Post by dasein »

Hi All-

I frequently load my delica up with about 600 pounds of motorcycle and racing parts. I would like to jack up the back end while travelling like this.

What are my options? Spring recurve? Air bags? Lift blocks?

Looking for the easiest one... cheap would be nice as well.

Adding a leaf is the simplest and might be the cheapest. Falco?

And from the gallery, helper springs or overload springs half-leaf springs, usually available from Kazikistan Tyre or an auto-wrecker which has a camper-truck parting out.

If you're loading and unloading extra leaf/respring are not good options as it will ride like crap unloaded if it's sprung for a specific loaded weight.

Lots of pickup guys I know that toss motorcross bikes and skidoo's in the back use airbags.

Airbags are best for coil springs which the L400 is and being 4-link suspension in the rear, it would not hinder offroad performance if you need to break through a rough trail while loaded.

They are inexpensive for what you get. Smooth ride unloaded and smooth ride loaded. It's the best of both worlds which add a leafs and rearching cannot accomplish in the same way.

I like air bags. Last truck I had I got a used pair off craigslist for $50.00 and modified them to fit my application. Nice since you can add air as needed to balance.

It just depends if you are do it yourself type or not.

Sorry, didn't realise it's coil springs in the back of an L400 - thought they still had leafs like an L300.

Disregard my last transmission.
