Side marker light. Two filament or one?

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

Side marker light. Two filament or one?

Post by Drumster »

I'd like to have the side marker lights play two roles: I'd like them "on" as part of DTR and also have them glow brighter as part of turn signal. This would require a two filament bulb, which I assume isn't stock. Will the stock socket accept a two filament bulb which I can then link up to signals? Will such a mod work out?
Cheers!

I haven't taken delivery yet (very soon though) so I can't check this for myself. I like to keep myself amused with dyi project planning. :-D

As the general consensus appears to be that I do not know what I'm talking about, and cause more harm than good, I am removing this post so that others are not tricked in to following my ill-advised instructions.

Cool. That's good to know.

As you probably know, on the L400 there's a small amber light above each front wheel well, about 12 inches behind the main light assemblies. These are the ones I'm referring to and I don't actually know what they do yet... but I'm assuming they come on as parking/marker lights only.

If they're going to be required to be on as DTR lights here in BC (which I also don't yet know) and at the same time be put to use as turn indicators, then I guess I'd have to replace the sockets etc as you suggest. But if these little markers will not need to be included as part of the DTR set-up then I think they'd be put to much better use wired up to the signal lights only, which should also be much simpler to do.

The end result would make it that much more obvious to the driver beside me that I intend to turn or change lanes.

Thanks for your comments! :-)

I didn't realize this before but just learned from Mark that these little side lights above the wheels are actually turn indicators, just as with your L300. I dug out your old post about making double as DTR as well as indicators... which is exactly what I want. I'll try to apply your "how to" description to my L400.
Should be fun! :-D

ah, sorry, I mistook which lights you were talking about, I could have told you those were turn signals, what I don't know is what the corner-light pods "do" fully on an L400.

good luck with the mod, I'm sure it's no more difficult than it was on the L300, with the possible exception of a slightly harder wire run.

If you mean the lights that fit in next to the headlights

Then they are a side light at the bottom and indicator/turn signal at the top.

The side light is all ready twin/dual filament, so when the lights are on they go brighter when you signal

I'm going to try hooking up the little orange signal lights as per green1's mod for L300. If I'm not mistaken, the function & wiring of these L400 signal lights is basically the same as the ones built into the protruding bump on L300's main light pod. So, I should be able to apply Green's wiring method. I hope so anyway.:-D

Green1 tried it on the L400. He told me it didn't work. He might have got it working later, but on first try it failed and he was stumped.
