Jesse,

We're keeping the original filters active but this Trabold will be set before the stock filter so that the stock filter doesn't see much use. They also come with a sample port where you can easily take sample of your oil from the Trabold filter for analysis, very practical. Filters are similar to the toilet paper found in other bypass filters except it's more compact and finer filtration capacity.

Just got it tonight from Felix :-D Opened the box not long ago and first impression it's very nice quality. Quite impressed with the product even before installing it!

Cool beans. I'm doing another route similar.

We're going to run an Amsoil bypass filtration system because of my history/experience with it along with my two friends who are longhaul truckers and have logged more miles than probably every person I know combined on diesels.

It's what I ran in our Pajero years ago and now it's waiting to be installed in our L400.

I used the BMK-23 with the oil pre-charger with good success.

The oil pre-charger works very well in wet/cold climates. It worked very well in our Paj.
The AMS-Oiler™ is an oil pre-charger that puts an end to dry-engine starting. Typically, an engine that sits idle for even a short period of time will operate relatively dry upon starting before oil is able to fully lubricate the system.

Although it's different than the Trabold, it's purpose is the same.

The one thing that differs greatly between amsoil and trabold are the mileage claims and oil change interval recommendations.

I don't know which one if either is better, but they both will help the oil stay cleaner which is a good thing.

Hopefully I can get out of this server room and go home to sleep. I can hear a pin drop outside it's so quiet at this time of night or morning or whichever it's supposed to be called. :-D

Any idea where to get it locally? I don't have time to order it.

The only question is, does 5W30 work well for our climate?

I have been looking high and low for an Amsoil pre-charger but they discontinued these a while back and I can't locate them anywhere. If you have a source that still has some in stock I would be grateful for a link.

A few phone calls and you'll be able to find a local truck/dino retail seller easy from the list.

I bought mine through a friend who in turn got it via his work at the airport. That source was small and limited to just me and a few others.

This climate, the best oil is 15w40 unless it drops below 0c, in which case 5w40 flows better in the cold.

I bought the BMK23 dual filter system at the time and had an adapter fitted by the truck shop. I'm not sure of the part # it was a few years ago.

The BMK23 is a bit overkill for the small 2.5/2.8's.

The best bang for the buck solution is the BMK21-EA $191 USD (newest model of BMK11)

That one is being used by lots of JDM cruiser guys.

The thing that's great about this system is that in cold weather, you're getting good oil right at the top/through/and down which is important.

Here's one write up with installation pics and a clean oil-cap mod.

Objective:

1. To install the By-Pass kit without drilling holes in the body.

2. Easy access to replace filter.

3. Use the biggest available filter to maximize oil system capacity and oil cooling.
The filter can be installed in an angle. Acceptable mounting angles are between 20° - 160°
The filtration efficiency is about 98.7 % @ 2 microns.
Almost like replacing your motor oil every 10 minutes!!!

Seems quite similar to the Trabold. I have the option to fit the intake at the top via the oil cap or valve cover or at the bottom at the sump. I'll go at the top so it helps with cold starts... just got to decide oil cap vs valve cover.

Sounds like the Trabold or Amsoil systems would be advantageous on every vehicle powered by an ICE engine, no? :-D

I'm going Franz when I get my L400. Met another veggie head recently who has 700,000+ km's on his Ford truck. He wasn't sure when the last time was that he changed his oil. Has been doing wvo for 15+ yrs and uses the Franz filter to filter not only on his truck for engine oil, but has three in series to filter his veggie oil. Admits this is over kill but you should see the oil he spits out. I'd use it to fry up my next donut!
