This was the first time I read through this thread, and now I wish I had earlier: my wife had the same problem with the Moon Machine about two years ago. I was going to suggest checking the cable clamps, and barring that looking at that mess of wires inside the battery box - especially if you've got two batteries in there. There isn't much room, the wires are all mashed into the space, and after 15+ years, something's going to give and it's usually one of the fusible links or the cable clamp itself (it works itself free from the cable or the post).Ursula wrote:i have brought the van into ace auto electric here in winnipeg. they had never seen a delica before, and were quite amused by it and eager for a challenge. one hour after bringing it in, they called and had found and fixed the problem. apparently there was a shorted out line behind the battery. they simply bypassed that line. hopefully that's a permanent solution. we'll see. $268.80 seem a little steep, but hey it could have been worse i suppose.
Jason, i called the guy you suggested, but he was too busy, and suggested i go elsewhere... thanks though.
I had the heat vent on re-circulated air all the way out here, as i didn't want freezing air trickling in, but that was dumb. on the way to ace, i switched it to fresh air, and lo and behold, heat. not fan driven, but some heat is better than none. i wish i had thought of that along the way. thank you so much for the tip!
I'll ask a bunch of questions when i go pick it up today, and post anything that might be interesting, or helpfull.
Thanks everyone!

Good to hear you got it fixed. That price sounds about right: a hour to find the problem, an hour to fix it, and material. And they did it without any wiring diagrams or manuals - got to hand it to those guys. They're what I'd call real mechanics because they figured out what was wrong based on the symptoms, not based on what some flow chart told them.
Good to read you're back on the road...
