L400 Oil Filter issues

L400 Oil Filter issues

Doing an oil change today. Taking out a MITSUBISHI FUSO
ME228898 and putting in a filter I bought from: http://www.delica.ca/forum/l400-spacege ... -8268.html

But they shipped me a 888 Brand Oil Filter YC 310. Instead of the C-1523 filter pictured.
The YC 310 filter is about a half inch shorter and not as wide as the ME228898

I talked to the guy at Maximum Overdrive and he assured me that this filter will work.

Is this an issue? Has anyone used this filter before?

So to update I have managed to get old filter off and put new filter on but havent yet refilled the oil, just incase someone says this filter wont work. The threads match up (26 X 1.5 mm size) but wondering if the smaller size is a problem?

I COULD be wrong, but I believe the size of the oil filter isn't as important as its ability to seal & its performance in filtering out particles. Someone please correct me if I assume wrong! :o

It should work in a pinch. As long as it is not leaking. The oil filter system is designed to fail over to recirculate if the filter becomes totally clogged. Given that it is smaller, I would not expect that it can filter as well as the larger original filter, so I would change it in a shorter interval.

size just changes amount of oil the engine takes to fill.
filtering capabilities may in-fact be better. Diesels do not shed metallic particles nearly as much as a gas pot.
that being said, the more oil the better! But as long as the rubber gasket is the same diameter and the filter threads on
without trying to cross thread...you will be just fine.

hi, it will be an issue for this as if you put a small filter on this intercooler turbo 2.8.
you will have problem later. mitsubishi delica big oil filter was design for intercooler to put enough cooling towards the oil of your engine. as the intercooler turbo runs high rev. for this engine.
now if you put small filter on this engine.the outcome later will be it would hurt your engine bearing as there is not much oil circulation on your engine.
there is a purpose on that thats why they put bigger oil filter:
my suggestion is that i will not put this small filter on delica as per later you will destroy your engine:
there is a purpose for this thats why they big filter;

I agree with mardy slighty. It may hurt your engine, but only if the filtering quality is lower and the flow rate is lower.

If those 2 factors are ok, I dont see why you couldn't use the filter forever

It won't be an issue so long as you spin on the correct filter sooner than later.

Like Mardy said, in the long run, it can hurt the engine.

And remember to fill the new filter with fresh oil before you spin it on !

as well as lubricate by the same oil the rubber ring of your oil filter!

This is pretty easy to do (at least on the L400s with vertical filters) but when changing the oil warm, all of the internals already have a thin film of oil over them, and I can't see the extra 3 seconds of reduced oil pressure (while a dry filter fills) causing that much harm when compared to endless daily dry starts - when the engine has been sitting overnight with all the oil draining down into the sump.

But still - can't possibly hurt. I'll have to give it a try next time.

Has anyone seen a new filter leak? I had a blue Boshi filter with me when I was down in the US, and I got my oil changed at Wal-Mart. (Yeah, yeah, I know, it was available and cheap)

When the installer filled the Boshi filter and put it on my van, it began to slowly drip oil out of the part with the "bolt" on it. I had to go back to my original filter, which now has about 10,000 KM on it.

Has anyone seen a new Boshi leak like this? I am glad the guy caught it, otherwise it would have sent all my oil out onto the road in short order and have destroyed the engine!

Oh, it was even better than you might imagine as I was in Washington state. One of the guys freaked out in delight at the ability to be able to drive a right hand drive vehicle! It was a PITA trying to get my vehicle entered into their system as they don't have a Delica to register it to, nor anything with a 4M40 engine. I told them to use a Montero with a V6.

I just love the celebrity like status for driving an L400 in the US.

These :M vehicles are SO different from your average MPV, it's no wonder you get stares everywhere you go, especially in the USA! How many people have asked "Where can I get one?" or "What the .... is THAT?"

This is exactly why I want one! An L300, of course!! :-D
