I'd get at least two snow tires for the drive wheels...

X2

With the weather doing what's it's been doing, it can go from dry roads to a foot of snow in a day.

Sorry to hear about the reason to go.

Pickup a set of Cnd tire chains for the car and return them if you don't use them when you get back

When I checked last year, the snow chains from Canadian Tire are not refundable. Check that if you wanna go this way.

my condolences ,
i live on hwy 101 in powell river. its always the first road plowed. they keep it salted too. the weather report looks reasonable.id say go for it
however i cant speak for the lower coast (gibsons-earls cove) but i'll bet they keep it clear too.
in powell river the people just go for it in their summer tires.

Time for a third car? I highly recommend a 1991-1999 ford escort. For $500.. you can get a Mazda car with a ford engine (the GT is all Mazda). Cheap and reliable. If you get a GT it has the bigger version of the twin came Miata engine with 4 wheel disks and better suspension, Fun and fast.

I don't think they are going to buy a 3rd car today for the trip tomorrow. :-D

Chains at Canadian tire are returnable if they are not used

Have you got one? If stretch doesn't get working soon I'll need it.

That is what my other car is. I am on my 4th or 5th Escort. I scrap them at 300,000 and get another one at 160,000. Other then Brakes, Tires, and Ball joints I do no repairs.

Never do the timing belt as they are non interference motors so if it breaks you change the belt then.

I look at it as a $500.00 car payment every two-three years. with a $300.00/year maintenance program.

Lots of GT escorts 1991-1996 with a little bigger 1.8L. Turbo bolts on if you really want to have fun.
