I have not but since i'm a plumber by trade i'm building a larger version in a holding tank that heats the shower water via the engine coolant it's going to be removable and easy hook up and easy use..... just going through the design now....

I use two 16 plate heat exchangers to have almost instant hot water via engine coolant. Each cost me $18 + shipping on ebay. $23 inline pump. $25 for shower head. $12 for fittings and $10 for hoses/clamps. Total cost was $128 for a complete hot water system that I can pull water from a creek or bucket.

Sounds cool Jesse. Any build pics? How long do you have to have the engine running to produce enough heat to get the water warm enough for a shower?

Built it for my Jeep many moons ago and took it out when I sold the rig. Have it waiting to be transplanted into the Safari.

Nice unit, i just purchased a portable shwer unit that runs on propane.. called campchef.......portable water heater, should be up and running in a few days for camping/washing the dog....did you use some sort of quick-connect fittings on the hoses? do the leak? that is a great set-up. but mine has to go in more than just my deli.. so motor power isnt in the cards for me.... Great job

Hey, i just got an Ecotemp portable water heater, and it works great, added a 12v pump, and any source of water is instantly warm/hot(easy controls to set flow and temp)... and if you stay near a gardenhose you can gook it up to that too and all the hot water you could want... fitted mine into an old ammo case, and all accessories fit inside for easy and safe transport.. except the 10lb propane tank.will have to find a good spot for that. Will eventually rig up a shower curtin to a flexible tent pole that will hook onto a roof rack when i find the rite one.. might have to biuld the Rack cuse i wanna make my own rooftop tent... will post pics when the system is complete...

I helped build something similar in the engine bay of a fj40 my step father had. It didn't have a the seperate pump though, we tucked everything neatly in the engine bay. I kind of like that Idea, probably crucial for a delica as there is not much room under the cab!

The only problem we ever had with the thing was that it would scald you if you weren't careful. Meanwhile in the summer you just bathe in lakes/creeks anyways so it didn't see as much use as you'd think. Sure is great to feel clean and civilized on a long fishing trip though
