Any idea if these can be imported or how much they would cost?

Re: Can we import these?
I've looked at these monsters in the past, I've found a company in Denver that imports them

I've not yet found someone in Canada that imports though. Neat looking monsters!

Only the ones that are more than 15-years-old to the month of manufacture/registration.nxski wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42P93B_G ... re=related

Re: Can we import these?
I thought there were some vehicles that still didn't qualify after that time period? Also, are we aloud to import near new vehicles that have the wheel on the right as long as there is a Canadian counterpart? I've been hearing mixed messages when it comes to this.

They used those while travelling through Russia on "The Long Way Round" to get their motorbikes across un-motorcycle friendly rivers and bogs. Pretty neat - probably still better milage than a hummer.

Have never heard anything to this effect.nxski wrote:I thought there were some vehicles that still didn't qualify after that time period?
Only from the United States, and only if it's on the Registrar of Imported Vehicles list. Brand-new 2011 vehicles, no waiting, etc. Again, only if it's on the list, though.nxski wrote:Also, are we aloud to import near new vehicles that have the wheel on the right as long as there is a Canadian counterpart?
And finally, steering wheel location HAS NOTHING to do with the import-ability of a vehicle. The only thing the federal law says about the steering wheel is that if it IS on the right, the vehicle MUST have either an electrical or mechanical signaling system (i.e. you cannot signal with your arm out the window, because the driver behind you, unless they're in a RHD vehicle also, won't see you).

Re: Can we import these?
I have just heard that some vehicles don't meet canadian standards in other ways than just headlights, tires, indicators etc... If this is not the case then there are some interesting vehicles I would like to import in the future.mararmeisto wrote:Have never heard anything to this effect.nxski wrote:I thought there were some vehicles that still didn't qualify after that time period?

Do you know where one might find said list? I was looking at a rhd honda element from 2007 or 8 that looked to be a great deal but I didn't think it would be possible to import it.

Yes, they were made in the 70s

I followed one around coquitlam near IKEA. Looked cool, but then I started thinking about the reality of owning something this vintage, and I am not that mechanically inclined.

Re: Can we import these?
If they don't meet certain safety criteria (for our standards are a little different from the States) then it won't be on the RIV. Look here for the list. Some of the vehicles were not even available in Canada, but they are on this list (i.e. usually there isn't a distributor in Canada which is why it was not sold here).nxski wrote:I have just heard that some vehicles don't meet canadian standards in other ways than just headlights, tires, indicators etc... You won't find a RHD Honda element on the RIV - they wouldn't have been sold in the States. LHD, but not RHD. And coincidentally, a co-worker of mine just imported an Element.
