Many interesting comments & valid points - as a relative newby owner - purchased in Dec - you cannot go wrong with the L400 wauto - we had a 5speed 94 pathfinder - but really have adapted to the auto tranny -especially for off road situations - Delicas are just amazing to drive & own -and go anywhere you want - a lot of passionate owners here & count me as 1 of them! get out to some Deli meets before you buy - learn lots from the people who have taken the plunge - get a few testdrives in. If I had to do it all over - I would buy a good price one from a previous owner - Craigslist/Kijijii etc - as the $$ saved there can be put towards any minor repairs these impressive vans may need - but inform yourself -good luck!

So many great replies indeed! Thanks to everyone for all your input, I am certain it helps not only just me but any others who are at my stage of vehicle searching.

I noticed in another discussion nxski mentioned he had made a substantial stereo upgrade to his Delica in part to drown out the noise of his aftermarket exhaust system. Are the gassers much quieter than the diesels? I see a V6 for sale @ a pretty low price, but I'd bet she's thirsty.

Diesel are only noisy if you are young and pull off the muffler and replace with a glass pack. Silly kids :-D

That I am! :-D that was mostly a joke though, the stereo system probably will block out any sound but even with a glasspack muffler it's not that loud.
