HID Headlamps

Will be receiving a 92 Chamonix in Dec when the date stamp matches 15 years. I'm in Alberta. I saw the post about group buy for lights. Am interested in wether there are any HID lights available that will work for the headlight conversions?

hi, sorry, there is no HId headlamp available for delica, just normal, H3 & H1 bulb

Thanks for that. I guess my best option is to buy a kit from the dealers in Coobs then?

I have a set of HIDs for my Delica . Nice conversion kit from Japan made by Hella . These kits are the proper HID`s with the seperate ballast unit .

Cost about $8500 for the van they were attached too !!!! The lights were free

Someone here bought a set of nissan HID (low beam only) from the wrecking yard. They fitted right into 9004; but you have to figure out the high beam.

Another cheaper option to explore are better bulbs. I tried a pair of H3 bulbs from PIAA http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H3.html and they made a HUGE difference. I put the Star White model in at about $40/pair from Lordco and I think they were worth every penny. They have one option for the H1 replacement bulbs http://www.piaa.com/Bulbs/Bulbs-H1.html. These bulbs don't draw anymore power than the system allows but they give equalvalent light of up to 110W (depending on model). The bulbs I got are 85W equalvalent but still only draw the 55W that the system is designed for.

Also, I tried a H1 bulb from GE ($25) which was supposed to be a higher output bulb but I didn't see much difference from the stock cheaper ones. I thought I'd try the PIAA H1 bulbs.

Anyway I thought I would throw this into the mix.

So Mark, if I read correctly, potentially you purchase the stock OEM housing assembly, and then you buy the better bulbs?

In Tofino last week I saw a Delica that had 2 plastic headlamp housings bolted on the bush bar, and the headlight lens behind it painted black, which had all faded off. So I'm thinking, surely there must be a better way. Is it now possible to replace bulbs within the existing headlamp housings, or do they need to be replaced?

The best way is to buy the replacement german specification headlamps and install PIAA bulbs . I don`t think the snow plow modification is sufficient to pass inspection under the new guidelines . If more light is required we install brighter driving lamps in place of the stock fog lamps .

Yep...approved for Canada headlights and then replaced the crappy bulbs with the PIAAs. Worked really well.

I have many questions!

What is H1 and H3? I think I'll be picking up the piaa h3 bulbs from the sounds of it.. will this cover both low and high beams?

I have the fog lamps, I'm not sure if they work as well as I'd like.. good for illuminating a big area in front of me in the dark but I tried them while driving in a cloud and they didn't seem to help much. Maybe not the right kind of fog

In BC am I required to keep covers on the fog lights? I don't have covers.

Anyone know where to buy the interior bulbs? The wierd pointy on both ends ones? I need a couple replaced. High output on those would be nice too

For off-road I carry just a handheld 1000000 candlepower spotlight. I checked at north shore offroad for the price on the spotlight that goes through a gasket on your roof to swivel it around at it is like $400. The handheld was $15 so I will stick with it

H1 and H3 are different types of bulbs. H3 fits your low beams and H1 fits your high beams. They are both single filament bulbs. I don't know what type of bulbs are in the fog lights...never taken mine apart.

Hi, They are both same usage, as long as it has the maximum 55Watts requirement for normal highway or city driving, its o.k., usually here in canada & US they used different bulb, on those year, we are so far behind before when they have a new design of headlight that they used in other country like japan & europe, more advanced in short. no problem you could used that H3 or H1 Bulb that you used in fog lamp, as long as it has max of 55 watt as required for normal city or highway used. hope this help everybody:

Would you recommend replacing both with PIAA? Lowbeams is where I really need and upgrade but if the hibeam can be significantly improved with a piaa bulb I'd do that too. I'll be stopping by lordco tonight
