Center unit - seat, storage and drink holders

Post by Dirty_dingo »

Hi
I am new to the forum. I own a white 1995 2.8L Mitsubishi Delica Spacegear (aka "YETI")! She is a beast, but lacked storage space in the front and, like most owners of this model, lacked cup holders because they are always broken!

So...I decided to build a centre unit box with cup holders and storage that would be easily accessible while driving, and also have a soft cushion on top to double as a chair/ stool.

The box is built out of mdf wood and is covered with a carpet type material. For the drink holders, I attached a milk bottle holder to the underside of each drink holder hole, to support the weight of the drinks.

I am very happy with the result and has proven extremely useful!!!!

I have attached some pictures.

Cheers
Dingo

Very nice!

Does it just sit between the seats, or is it secured somehow?

Hey

No it is not secured to the floor, it just sits there under its own weight. It has never moved around, even on rough dirt roads. I guess the carpet on the box grips to the floor carpet well enough.

I would have saved the money on materials and bought a plastic and vinyl ready made centre console to match the dash for $20 from Crappy Tire myself, but I guess you have time on your hands.... and I respect that!

True, you are the second person to mention this plastic console. I have not come across it but would love to see pictures if anyone has any? or knows a link to a picture?

I doubt I would be able to get the console in New Zealand anyway.

I've seen lots of different consoles in different sizes and shapes with different features. They range from about $5-300.
