Actually in a case like comet Elenin its really easy to know what to believe. Anyone with high school physics can calculate the effect of Elenin on a given planet in our solar system at any given time. A university level of orbital science and you can calculate its period (how long it takes to go around) as well. The Earth, sun and Elenin haven't lined up in hundreds of years.

On top of that, if Elenin was a small brown dwarf (about 0.05 times the mass of our sun) it would have already caused the orbit of saturn to drift to the point saturn's orbit would intersect other orbits in our solar system. If Elenin was a brown dwarf, by 2020 it will have altered the orbits of the inner planets so much that Earth would be uninhabitable.

The reality is all the planets are on their nominal paths. You don't need a government agency or scientist to measure that... you just look at any sky atlas published before Elenin was discovered, and see that Saturn is exactly where it should be in the sky as it passes by.

The reality is Elenin is so small and distant, that at its closest approach it will have less gravitational effect on the earth than a small car will (you can calculate this using Fg = Gm1m2/r^2).

If you need FURTHER proof, elenin has a spectral signature similar to that of a comet. If it was a brown dwarf it would have different elements giving off different wavelengths of light than something that is mostly ice will.

Another link would be: http://www.elenin.org. This link is just reporting, not necessarily drawing conclusions. Either way if NASA is right then and it's a dirty little ice ball at four kilometres in diameter then we will be able to see Elenin in the sky in August with binoculars. If it truly is a brown dwarf and 300,000 kilometres in diameter then I figure it will appear in the sky like a second moon. Time will tell. Incidentally, I read off the NASA news that sometime in the near future (I forget the date but it should still be on the NASA website) another comet will be passing between the Earth and the Moon. The spokesman from NASA claims that it will have less environmental effect on the Earth and Moon than say a car left running in a car park. I always thought that comets were big with their own gravitational pull but perhaps it will only effect the environment like a puck passing between the stick blade and skates of a Canuck. Mind you the CBC is currently showing a lot of environ-mental action going on in and around Granville & Georgia.

And on that note:

Regarding Chara's hit on Mason Raymond, the footage is very clear: The puck passes through Raymond's feet, he tries to reach it by bending over but is not successful; Chara skates into him, pushing Raymond into the boards; Chara presses down on Raymond's back as Raymond hits the boards; Chara uses Raymond's doubled over body as a cushion between Chara and the boards. It's pretty clear. The Canucks report that he will take three to four months to get back on the ice, other people say that he is somewhat finished as a hockey player, the last I heard. Incredible officiating.

If the comet is a brown dwarf we will all be dead long before it is the size the moon. By the time it hits the orbit of mars (appear as a point of light in the sky) our orbit would be dramatically messed up. But again, if you want to check, go outside with a telescope the next night saturn is visible, check what time it should be where, and see if its there. If it isn't, the comet is a brown dwarf, and we're all dead.

Every body with mass has a gravitational field, but when one mass is much smaller than the other (like a comet having a mass much smaller than earth) the effect appears one way.

I think the environmental effect Nasa is talking about is debris from the comet making its way to the atmosphere. Water vapour and methane in the upper atmosphere are much more significant greenhouse gasses than C02 is, so in theory, a comet leaving enough debris could cause some measurable environmental damage in terms of global warming.

So... any comments on (HST)? Are we insane to vote "Yes, I want to extinguish the (HST) and go back to paying 12%"? Should we vote "No, I want the (HST) because I've been told that it will be 10% sometime in the future by the same people who promised that there would never be ~ (HST) ~ in BC"? .......and go back to paying 12%? Is the (HST) not currently 12%, except on more products and services?

Back in the '68 election ~ Trudeau asked a young man how he was going to vote, to which the young man replied "I don't get into politics, man". Trudeau's riposte was "the problem with not getting into politics is you run a high risk of being ruled by inferior people"(paraphrased).

Evidently few people have been "getting into politics" lately .........

This is not a public forum this is a private forum. There is only one person moderating and he censors at will anyone who does not agree with his vision.

This is not a community it is a business. Paying advertisers take precedence over everyone.

Just out of curiosity do you think it's possible to flip a delica backwards from going up too steep of a slope?

Sure, why not?

Think about the displacement. The majority of the vehicle weight is down with the frame platform and drive train and as has been discussed before the front axle of an L300 typically carries 60% of the weight and the rear axle carries the other 40% (empty). So basically, I would think that if you propped your L300 on her rear end (vertical), I would think that she would fall butter side down, that is to say she should land on her wheels. Now if you introduce velocity into the equation then that could change the outcome. A while back I found myself doing a sideways drift on the Causeway in Stanley Park by Lost Lagoon, I was doing something like 30 - 40 KPH when it began ~ I estimate, and she didn't roll. But what if I hit a pothole or a curb, say? I have climbed some reasonably steep inclines but never ninety degrees.

Come on Falco. Open your eyes.
Smiles... Jesse, it amuses me how you surgically remove four words out of a post and start arguing ~ pretty much a different topic. You bring up two business interests that have been top posting but only criticise one (no names mentioned, just quotes), and all this time you ignore the actual tenor of the subject matter, which is:
Information Notice:

Delica Canada upgrade: Please be advised that by 1st September, 2011; "Vehicle Sales" any sub-forum under "Vehicle Sales", with the exception of "Dealer Feedback, Beefs, and Bouquets", will no longer be appearing in View Active Topics.

So this post goes up in Sales by Canadian Registered Dealers as an advanced notice to the dealers (as of 1 August it goes global to mark one month left). This decision was made because of the disposition of the membership, and thereby the administration, and you suddenly must protect the masses from one dealer and a blind administration?

Have you ever actually read your own words and seen how contradictory they are?

The most intriguing issue here is you are protesting... I presume the warning I issued you with for breaking your promise of not causing a public disturbance in Delica Canada... and boycotting the site until all this advertising stops. Fair enough, we all need to make a statement once in a while and all you need to do is wait until 2 September and you get your wish. Yet you keep coming back before the date ~ and every time you do there is a critique of Delica Canada, like: "the pictures are too large for this site so here's the link" or "Falco must open his eyes". And just to think I enlarged the image capacity by near half, just for you...

So tell us Jesse, why is this happening?

jfarsang wrote:It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out that this forum is being used and abused by dealers.

Then I am grateful you don't work at NASA.
jfarsang wrote:To my knowledge, this is the only forum on the internet that is allowing this type of cross advertising and blatant use of a community forum.

This is something that has happened since the advent of the forum, to a degree it has been useful. Only recently has the top posting gotten out of hand, so we are changing it. Is that not a good Idea?
jfarsang wrote:I hoped to come back and expect something to change. Something that will benefit the members. So far, all I've seen if the loss of a few excellent moderators and the continuation of dealer exploitation. I can't believe these guys truly believe that their right in this forum overrules any member. How absurd.

What few excellent moderators are you referring to? I know one left due to a difference of opinion with the management. One hasn't been active for sometime, apparently due to a complaint that he was being plagiarised by someone ~ in fact we have gained one. seeing as you have known all along that the changes don't manifest until 1 September then... perhaps you have come back too soon. I have been waiting for Christmas... it's not here yet, either. Why is that? By the way, we have not exploited any dealers, get your grammar straight.
jfarsang wrote:You guys are seriously going to loose major contributors (as you have already) because of the way you have been handling this situation and continue to ignore your membership concerns.

For one, I hardly consider building a whole website dedicated to removing advertising in the lists because membership thought it clogged things up, yet keeping the market close by a link in the main pages for the members who like to peruse ~ as ignoring the membership. In fact, things have been fine. Typically there is the better part of a page of new posts every day, some by new members. The dealers have not been top posting as much, likely because they are preparing for the change over to a better forum for their needs, which has met with a fair amount of approval, I might add. Still we need to iron out some bugs, of course, which is why we set up schedules and generally we have been keeping to them, more or less. Not bad for cheap labour, eh?

Falco.

P.S.:
jfarsang wrote:You guys (admins/gods) of whatever you'd like to call yourselves, are not acting in the best interest of the 'community' that has grown in here. You're acting in the best interests of dealers and sales. This goes against the grain of what you two profess in the past.

How things have changed as David and others have been voicing on deaf ears.

This is a valid complaint against the site admins, not members. About as clear as it gets.

As I have written before, twice I believe, we are administration, the low end of the totem pole. Not sure where that started ~ I think it was your colleague, RichD. He also insinuated that I banned you, evidently this is not the case. Then he sent me a psychic text message telling me to ban everyone ~ go figure.
You keep saying that we are not acting in the best interest of the community ~ how do you think all these things happen in DC? I don't think you truly appreciate what goes on here. Despite all the gold that Google throws at us, we don't get paid for this ~ it's all done in our spare time. I'd say we have been pretty dedicated to all the community.

As far as David goes ~ I listen to him a lot, he is a very good friend of mine, he is my Frère. I am not sure where you are planning to go with this ~ perhaps you should stop here.

When you claim this to be a "valid complaint", by what authority? The fact remains that the issue has been resolved and actions are being taken. This was first publicly addressed in the advanced notice, reprinted above, on the 7th of July. Perhaps you are really complaining that it is not happening fast enough for you. I suppose that is fair ~ after all we all have our opinions. FC.
