Don't forget the air filter canister has a water/dust trap complete with one way valve. I would think the original elbow would be better, too. Although... I really like the potato mortar idea :-D .

Whew good I'm saying this as a plumber I noticed the different color piping and these are two different types of plastic.... White = pvc black =abs ..... If you plan on joining these different materials together PLEASE use a transition glue..... as they won't bond together at all other wise :-D

Bolted inside the 4" ABS 90 (snorkel head) is a 3" PCV fitting so water has somewhere to go.

Yesterday, modified the airbox to a 3" intake on the other side of the airbox and closed up the factory hole (no camera and was rushing (total time hour)).

Glued it up today. Left the trap on the bottom after driving back from Maple Ridge in down poor (collected some water and given the price of pistons, blocks, and connecting rods I will give up some performance for water collection).

Seems to have more pull between 2,000 rpm and 3,000 (I usually shift here anyhow).

Little load and I suspect it could suck a rag up!!!

Cheers

Love the G.S.

I like how in that picture it looks like the chimney is coming out of the roof of your rig! Snorkel AND chimney, for the fireplace inside your Deli - talk about a Tardis!

Very cool.

One thought re:water collection - now that you have extended the top of the snorkel up into the ionosphere, any reason not to use a U-turn on top instead of an elbow? (so that the entrance is pointing downward)

That'd cut way down on water intake I'm thinking... and if your engine is turbo-charged, I don't think any "ram-air" effect from facing forward would have much of an impact.

I have a 4 inch 90 with a spaced out 3 inch adapter inside so most water goes out the back.

When I had the trap on the bottom no water collected even in Vancouver/Seattle's worst...
