Rockguard on plastic?

Post by FredVenne »

Good day everyone!

I know this topic has been out there many times, but I was thinking if anyone of you ever thought of spraying rockguard on the front plastic panel (the mitsubishi panel)? It does not say on the bottle if you can do it, looked on the web, nothing even in here…

Any idea?

Cheers,

Fred

I put rocker guard on my plastic Thule box and proceeded to go offroading and drag huge branches across it. So far there are a couple minor scratches but I'm very impressed with the durability. The steps I used were to sand and clean, prime, apply black paint and then rocker guard on top of that.

Thanks for the reply!

Nice!

So did you use superfine steel wool? And I am wondering why black paint underneath the rockguard, is it that if in case it chipped, it would be black instead of the colour of the primer?

I just used a medium grit sand paper and some TSP. I used black paint because I was cheap and didn't want to buy new materials. I had 1 can of primer, 2 cans of black paint and one can of rocker guard so I made do. :-D

I'm looking forward to seeing how it turns out, I wanted to do the same to mine but never got around to it.
