the stock filter (if it's clean) works very well with a 2.5" exhaust.
If you don't think there's enough air on the intake side, look for blockages in the ducting.

Hi Chris, Agree with Jesse Farsang, stock air filter good on L300, I have 2.5 side exhaust and muffler. Air filter needs changing OFTEN, get dusty even tho not black with dirt, that miniature road dust makes delica start bad, hesitate uphill and bad at high altitude. Use new air filter, generic good, improvement amazing. U can blow it out from inside with compressed airhose but it never gets out all the embedded fine dust. There is a town in Chile, I will find name, it specializes in importing L300 and rebuilding engines, rows of them sit there, convert steering from right to left... they fix anything for just a few dollars. Anna and Pablo driving the world in L300 were there, they stay with me now, http://viajeros4x4x4.wordpress.com Cheers,Christine.

I just I installed a K&N filter which seems to be working great, the big difference in power was switching to a larger exhaust, not changing the filter though.
