torque specs on glow plugs

Post by SnowSlide »

just got some new glow plugs- anyone have an idea what torque they need to be installed at? The metal seems a little soft, and I don't want to overdo it.

I got them from 4 Wheel Auto in Edmonton. I have kind of a mixed review regarding my experience. I was hoping to find them as soon as possible, and I may have paid more than I needed to.

Dan at 4WA was very nice and helpful, and he convinced me that he orders higher quality glow plugs than the cheaper ones you can find elsewhere. Especially for his customers in the Edmonton area, he says you need higher quality plugs than you would get if the vehicle was intended for milder climates.

He ordered them from Australia I think, and charged me $34.95 each. I was quoted $18 elsewhere, but I have no experience with these things to know whether there is really that much quality difference between expensive and cheap ones. Hopefully there is a difference and I have top of the line glow plugs.

I was also in kind of in a hurry, and at the time he said he could get them to me quicker than any of my other options. In the end, though, they took a week longer than quoted (I guess that's really not too bad considering international ordering and shipping), but they got shipped to the wrong address. Dan said he wanted to stock these, so you could probably get them within a week if he indeed got more.

Anyway, here's the part #'s

this is what's stamped on the plug:
GEN
M-21 (6V)
4M

on the box:
GEN - Genuine Parts - GEN Electric MFG (Tokyo)
GPPM161
MF4D55,56(6V) Glow Plug
710 67451A
M-21

though M-21 is what is stamped most prominently on the box

oh, I was quoted $18 each from Maximum Overdrive, and it sounds like they should have them in stock now. I'd be curious to see where they are getting them from, and how the quality compares to what I bought.
