Calgary Transmission Flush : connector size and glow plugs

Hello folks...

I'd like to get my tranny flushed...It's a 90 Pajero so I'm pretty sure Dextron lll is good (unless someone knows otherwise?).

The transmission place asked me to find out what size the hose fitting was? This is so he could hook up the pump system otherwise he'd just to a tranny "service". Anyone know the fitting size...? On that subject I'd rather take it to someone that knows these trucks...anyone in Calgary that knows how to do a flush on these trucks?

He also asked me what kind of gasket was on the pan. Is this reusable or should I get a replacement now before even starting this?

Plugs: I'm looking to pick up some 12v glow plugs (I have a manual system and would like to keep it that way). Has anyone discovered the North American part # for 12v plugs? I've got the 6.2 from NAPA# (if anyone is interested) but not the 12's.... Anyone?

Get a transmission gasket kit which comes with gasket/ss filter. It should be replaced when doing a flush.

The connector size would be the same as a north american Mitsubishi Montero 1990 ~ equivalent to your trans on the Pajero. That make/model is in the NA part/service shop systems.

For 12v plugs if you are using a manual start system, I used NGK cy55's with sucess. They didn't like the stock ECU setup much but for manual, they are good.

Is the tranny flush kit also Montero from a part # perspective? Or am I going to have to go through one of the Vancouver parts dealers for this?

As for the CY55...I've got that part # ironically BUT NAPA says they can't find it in their system (so I thought there was a different number). I've come across them on ebay but not here so far... Am I missing something?

I have a set of the Hyundai 12v that work on a Deli/Paj with the manual system. I bought them from Rising Sun a few years back and used them for a few days before finding out that they wont work on an auto system. Eventually RSun offered to refund my money but I couldn't be bothered.

Here are educational facts for glow plug application.

Delica L300 (pre 1991) has 'Auto Glow Plug System' which uses 12V glow plugs with one relay.

Delica L300 (1991 - 1993) has 'Super Quick Glow Plug System' which was designed to shorten the glow plug warm up time. To shorten the duration, they used 6.2V glow plugs (on glow plug, it is written 6.2V [12V]) rather than 12V ones that they used earlier, with two relays (one for before-start and the other for after-start to prevent the burnout of glow plugs) and a dropping resistor. The main disadvantage of this system is that glow plugs were much easier to burn out because of the voltage. Hence, glow plugs needed to be replaced earlier than anticipated. Imagine the second relay is dead. That means your glow plugs will fail soon from overheating.

Delica L300 (post 1993) has 'Self Regulating Glow Plug System' which uses 11V glow plugs with one relay. If you understand what is written above, you will understand why Mitsubishi abandoned 6.2V glow plug system with two relays.

Delica L400 is the same as Delica L300 (post 1993) - 11V.

The key to understand the logic behind this is 'CURRENT' not the voltage. The range of current going through glow plugs on Delica L300 (1991 - 1993) is (80A to 40A). If you measure the current going through Hyundai glow plugs on the same model year, the range is (60A to 40A). This means, the glow plug warm up time for some 11V glow plugs is little slower than 6.2V ones.
However, the most important thing is that there is no overheating problem. Good ones have 'built-in resistor' (variable resistance versus temperature) to prevent overheating.

If you have a working Super Quick Glow Plugs Control System( 1992 Spearo's L300 ), Hyundai 11V glow plugs are not working for your van.

Here is the summary for 11V Hyundai glow plug application.

1. In the early model ( before Aug 1993 ) delica L300 and Pajero with perfect working control system with 6.2V , 11V Hyundai glow plugs basically do not work.
2. If you have a manual control system in your 6.2V system due to whatever reasons , 11V Hyundai ones work great.
3. Hyundai 11V glow plugs work excellent for all 4M40 engine and late model L300 and pajero ( 4D56 engines ).

If you have different ones other than 6.2 V in early model , you may have another problem.

Silly question but would they be good for the "flush package" I need as well... or is there somewhere else?

I think you mentioned the tranny was the same as the Montero...correct? So same gasket / filter set for the tranny then?
