Wrecked Delica Chamnoix

Post by youtree »

Hey there All,

Just got hit by a Jeep Cherokee in Nelson. Our lovely 96 "Chammy" was towed away. Luckily no one was hurt. The tow guy said that ICBC will usually just pay what the car is worth and not even bother trying to fix it because the parts are too hard to find/expensive and that no one will want to try to fix a right side vehicle. I don't want to give up that easily. Has anyone ever dealt with ICBC and feel like sharing what their experience was like? Is there hope for our Delica? What can I do? The front end and driver side corner panel are smashed along with the radiator lost it's fluid and other engine stuff on that side (fuse box, belts etc...) Any help is appreciated. You can commiserate too if that helps any.

Thanks.

Sorry to hear that.
We have had lots of threads about total loss for RHD vehicle invloved accident.
You may search " write off, total loss, etc ".

From your description, I would think your L400 will be written off eventually.

My understanding (never experienced it personally)...the van is yours until you sign it away...you should have the option to buy it back however if they write it off the most likely will make it un-insurable again.

If you can part it yourself you can make $$$ engine alone is worth $2000+... If you can part it it might be worth buying back.

I'm glad you guys are all ok! I agree with the above but it all depends on the extend of the damage. I've seen people fighting to get their van not "totaled" but its a uphill battle.

If you can part it off you'd probably make more money depending of your insurance (full coverage or not). If you part it out I will happily volunteer to buy your middle bench if it's a L400 Chamonix!

Good luck!

Hey all,

Have been talking with ICBC. They want to try and get it fixed! They looked around and noticed how much it is "worth". One body shop in town already turned us away and said they would not work on it. It is sitting at Chevrolet dealer until they assess the costs.

One question:

"Part it out my self" Does that mean wheeling and dealing and then removing parts to ship and sell?

I will keep y'all posted.

If ICBC has said they will repair it, take that option. That is good news.

ICBC in the past few years have been attempting to remove the owner's title of a damaged RHD and slap a salvage title so it cannot be registered in BC in the future regardless of the minimal repair estimate. This brings the RHD numbers down for them. That means policy is changing in our favor (RHD owners in BC).

Glad everyone is okay and that there is a good chance you keep your L400. That's the best thing you can hear as an owner. Cheers

Yeah they did it. They slapped a salvaged title on it a completely wrote it off. Boo hoo! We did receive a nice sum of money for it. A few hundred below what we bought for a year ago. I still have not accepted the price and will try to go a little higher just to see. I guess that is one RHD off the road, but perhaps another one on the road.

It's too bad. No one wants to loose their own rig.

ICBC will pay you in gold coins if it has to settle. They have no restriction on payout's for RHD's, just estimates as these vehicles are not in their money bank database. If you have time, wait it out for a few weeks/month or two and you will get more out of them. They want fewer RHD's on the road and writing one off here and there regardless of cost is a drop of the $ bucket for them.
