Delica Newbie
Hey there,
I only really became aware of Delicas and JDM cars after moving to the West Coast about 5 years ago. I spend a lot of time in the backcountry on access roads throughout the southern Coastal range as a member of an active Search and Rescue team based out of Lion's Bay and I always admired and wanted a Delica...the opportunity came two weeks ago when I drove my trusty old Land Rover off an embankment in Garibaldi Park in Squamish. The silver lining from that sad event was that I finally had a reason to look for and buy a Delica. I feel lucky that I found a really clean vehicle with fairly low clicks and some nice all-terrain accessories...I will be adding some more in the next few weeks.
I have a lot to learn about these vehicles...so different in so may ways from my big old V8 but I am excited to learn about the characteristics/technicalities of these rugged little vans and spend as much time in the mountains in my own.
I hope I can learn lots from this online group and contribute anything that I can.
cheers,
Simon

Re: Delica Newbie
the 2.5L is no gas V8 be really careful flooring it looking for power.
Diesels do not work like gas V8 at all. So if climbing a hill giving it more fuel does not increase the speed you are adding fuel to the combustion chamber that is only making heat....piston melting heat...
Adding a EGT/Pyro is the best investment you can make on a underpowered diesel (L300)...
Van looks nice and welcome!

Re: Delica Newbie
G'day Simon,
that's a nice looking van.
We have a number of members that have created some clever mods to their vans.
These add to the enjoyment of the Deli's.
Just remember,
there is no such thing as a dumb question.
Only dumb things people do for not asking in the first place.
I hope you have many years Deli-ing around

Re: Delica Newbie
...so I did a little more research on EGT Pyrometers...anyone have a suggestion for where to get performance mods done? ...I guess this isn't the proper place for this post...

Re: Delica Newbie
Hi Simon
Here's the pyrometer link/info:
Why it's good to have : http://www.delica.ca/forum/pyro-gauge-w ... -5819.html
Good info: http://www.delica.ca/forum/pyro-and-boo ... -3866.html
There will need to be a hole drilled in either the exhaust pipe just after the turbo (easiest to do) / on the exhaust manifold and have the bung that comes with the pyro kits welded in. Most people buy an autometer or like pyro EGT kit from Lordco, etc.. take it to a muffler shop and have them install the bung where the probe threads into.
Feeding the probe line around/through the firewall into the interior and up the dash/hooking it up will be up to you or if you can find someone to do custom work. I can refer you to a few people who do top notch modifications like this.

Cheers
