Secret fuel pump cut off switch

Hello folks
I would like to mount a simple (and non distinct) on/off switch on the dashboard that cuts the power to the fuel pump.

The point is to add one more level of theft security while travelling south. I should note that I have the V6 GASSER.

Anyone out there got any ideas where to patch the switch in? Maybe it can be as simple as patching into the fusebox?

If the idea is for theft protection I wouldn't put it on the dash. Maybe under the seat!? Unfortunately that's all I can add to this.

Ignition line to the fuel pump, and don't put it on the dash. Or if you do, add a couple more of switches so it doesn't stand out so much.

You may want to add a manual in-line switch at the positive terminal by the battery. When you leave the vehicle for any period of time and want it immobile, pop the hood and turn the key to 'off'. (some switches come with special key's that you carry to lock/unlock)

This will prevent them from stealing your vehicle short of towing it away.

I have put them under the seat before....

You can also add a double throw switch and turn disconnect the neutral switch on the transmission (If automatic) so it has no fuel and will turn the starter.

You can also use a key ingnition switch so you can pull the key as well.

The most subtle stealthy cutoff method I'd ever heard about involves sacrificing your in-dash cigarette lighter socket.

Remove the wiring to the socket (see [*] below) and hook up both sides of a cutoff line to the socket.

Then short-circuit the cigarette lighter plug itself, and use that to close the circuit by plugging it in when you are driving.

When you leave your car, just take the plug with you. Since so many people use their lighter plug just to charge cell phones, etc., a missing cigarette plug on the dash doesn't draw any attention.

[*] If you really need the functionality of the cigarette lighter socket, just take the wiring that you removed from the original socket and wire up a new extension to one that you keep buried in your glove box (you can access the interior of the glove box from the rear; that's where I keep the USB stick for my radio - on a short pigtail). Then you can drape it out of the glove box to use when you are driving.

my dad had a 1980s ford van with 4 on the floor (yes standard full size van were made)

He made it so the shifter pulled out of the floor and would pull a floor matt over the hole....

it just confused the kids too much...clutch no shifter wtf???

I already have installed the battery isolating switch suggested by Jessie - but that only gets used when leaving the vehicle for a long time. There is one inherent problem with this switch. If the bad guy gets access to the steering wheel he can open the hood and with a simple tool he can bridge the connection and get power back to the battery. Just touch the two contacts on the back of the key.

I thought I would add a second 'rear window defog' switch on the dash that can be activated quickly and easily for short duration separations,or redundancy operations...

... but then the ignition wire is probably pulling too many amps to simple switch. Is there no fuel pump wiring easily accessible under the dash?

Now that's got style. I like the ? buttons. I've been toying with the idea of mounting a tablet/I-pad on the middle console hatch, set it up like a touch screen off of the Star Ship Enterprise (2nd Gen) and wire it up to stuff like interior lights, proton torpedoes, cabin heating systems, night vision camera systems, systems analysis programme, &c. ...

Regarding the fuel cut off switch there are some pretty good vehicle immobiliser packages on the market that sell for a "reasonable" price. Or you could just check them out for ideas and build your own.

A buddy of mine had his cut off switch hidden in his trunk. I think that is prolly the best place... where is our trunk? Maybe the Jack cubby hole?
