Proud new owner of a white L400 :D

Post by andpol »

Just got myself a L400 from David here in town. I got the Delica to use for hiking and plan to eventually camperize the back. Here's a picture of me on the south summit of Mt. Arrowsmith near Port Alberni: http://i.imgur.com/UdaBj.jpg

I've already had to tighten the alternator belt (which was so easy!) to git rid of some squealing. Is there any other things that I should check/replace/maintain? I also need to drain the windshield washer fluid (just water currently), what would the easiest way of doing this be? Also, is there a separate container for the headlight nozzles? They don't seem to be working...

Welcome to forum!
Looking good.

If not done yet, I would recommend to replace radiator, radiator hoses, power belts, water pump, thermostat and new coolant.
Others are can be done one by one.
There's no separate container for the headlight washer nozzles, and pretty much common issue for not working properly ( no big deal ).

Nice bump bar on front!

I find I tend to chow thru my fluid at a rapid pace, so if it were me, I'd just run 'em for a minute or so 'til the tank gets low. As long as they are flowing fluid, they should stay cool (i.e. you won't burn out the motor).

Not sure about where the light washers are fed; can you follow the tubes back? (I have a lowly Exceed with no such luxuries...) Can you hear the motor running when you hit the button? All fuses checked OK?

FWIW, the rear washer tank has its own filler on the inner left of the hatch at about chest height.

If you can get access to the lines and remove them, try blowing them out. 15 years is a long time for crud to accumulate in 'em.

Either that, or try any poke a pin or paper-clip back thru the hole; sometimes its just old car wax etc. plugging up the orifice. Sometimes you get lucky.

I wouldn't say it's no big deal; often's the time in dirty/dusty places where I'm having to get out and wipe off the lenses so I can see at night. Safety first, SpongeBob!
