Your right again Kevin! Is there any place in BC you haven't been. Sorry it took so long to respond as I've been touring the island with no internet.

Larry I simply like to explore, been to 28 different countries and soo many miles exploring BC all just makes me want to see more - and know how much more there is just yet to see. Heck the northwest of BC is still unexplored by me, I've driven around the Stewart-cassiar hwy and Alaskan hwy loop, but there is a crazy amount of wilderness still to explore in NW BC. Muchalat was easy, I'm originally an Islander.

But lets go back to the mainland, WMU 2-12, and has some of the best sunsets from your campsite you can find.

Well I guess it's time somebody took a guess @your site. The description you give and the pictures make it look like a site called Dinner Rock. The Web site indicates the road is now paved so " if you have adequate power you should be able to get in and out". Makes it sound really interesting! I guess I'll need to start planning for next year.

Dinner Rock Rec site it is, a nice, rarely busy camping spot.

This Rec Site is in WMU 5-15. It is a fairly large lake with several islands surrounded by fish! It is a bit of an effort to get to but well worth it. You often have the entire lake to yourself.

Over the years L300 Delica's pulled our 2 different travel trailers outta the site easily when the hill was gravel, it was always known that class A motorhomes stayed out of the site. The hill less steep then the road into Khartoum Lake, which I've failed to find a picture of as it would have been a more difficult lake to guess.

Ohhh that Island from your newest site looks so familiar, I can remember a few Cariboo lakes where I've fished near one like that. The only lake I've fished north of Horsefly in that area is Spanish Lake, so I'll guess Spanish though it's been since before my kids were born that I've fished it. Crooked Lake was a pretty lake we camped and fished at when I was a kid, but the background is much more mountainous.

Well it is not either of the 2 Spanish lakes in 5-15 or Crooked Lake and who said it may be north of Horsefly!

Nobody did, just the lakes I know south of Horsefly have nice large mountain back drops.

Pardon the ignorant Albertan... but you BC types mention WMU numbers for these sites that you go to, is there a map that correlates to where you guys are going?? What are the numbers based on? Are these crown land sites or parks?

Just curious.

The WMU numbers we refer to are defined by the following web site: http://www.env.gov.bc.ca/fw/wildlife/hu ... units.html

Each of the Regions is broken down further. These numbers are referred to for fishing regulations and hunting as well I presume. I think Alberta has something similar but likely use different designations. The Recreation Sites do not specifically refer to an area but if you know where the area is you can go to the Web site listed on page one. There are over 1100 sites and an additional 300-400 which were abandoned when the sites were transferred from Forestry to Tourism. These abandoned sites are sometimes on the Backroads Mapbook for an area or the old Forestry Recreation maps. I have a few of these Forestry maps in pdf format if anyone is interested. They are huge files and of course out of date but still good info.

I've attached another picture of the lake taken looking east. Kevin was closer than he realized with the Spanish reference as part of the FS road to the ' lakes ' in some references is referred to as Spanish Creek. Lake elevation is about 3430' if that helps.

The satellite picture and the hint for the road name allowed me to figure this one out, but won't name it till early next week to give someone else a guess. Doing so for 2 reasons; never have fished, or visited, the lake and you've given good clues to allow others to figure it out.

Is it a good fishing lake? Or is it like Schoolhouse, which we found our way into once and found it loaded with 1-2 lbs bows.

The fish are nice 1 to 2 # and maybe the odd large ones as I broke off a couple using 8# tippet. The water is nice and clear so you can see the sunken islands. I'm beginning to think I may be making this lake look so good I won't have it to myself next year!
