Great info here. Thanks to Erebus for making things crystal clear.

The only thing I would like to add is the bolt specs.

M6-1.0 x 16

M6 = 6mm diameter
1.0 = thread pitch
16 = length in mm

You want 16 mm in length to compensate for the flat washer and lock washer.

Super simple mod but effective!

From the pics I am seeing L300s. Will this work on a L400?

yes you need longer bolts otherwise they will strip out. The tailgate is a heavy piece and there's lots of strain on the shock.
Another option I found worked well is to cut a spacer piece (old plastic cutting board) and insert it on the top of the shock bracket. Yup, you guesses it, longer bolts!!!
Works on all delis L3&400.
