I can't stand auto's and the L300 auto was my first vehicle that I came to appreciate it because of it's durability and excellent shift points for both road and offroad crawling, the L400 even more so.

I don't have the time or money (and despite what i'd like to think, the skill) to do the mods it sounds might be necessary to make a stick work. Oh well, maybe the mediocrity of a manual will be offset by the fabulousness that is Delica.

That's what I'm hoping!

hi, i think the only way you can think if you can modify the L400 manual tranmission rear end to a high ratio
as maual tranmission has i think low ratio rear end than automatic.
will check further.
as you know i do have automatic 2wd L300 and when i reach 100k speed its diff than 100k speed on l300 4wd.
maybe this will work never tried it yet since i own and drive delica for 9 year now.
i do have 2 manual transmission 5 spd in stock now came off on L400 from japan.
so tranmission is not a problem. only way is which choice you want.
i do sell nearly i think 4 units l400 manual transmission all over canada.
seems like they dont have any problem yet , since i sold to them
hope this help cheer;s

I'm a shifter. I've been driving a L300 with a 5speed manual for about 5 years with no issues. My van had 60,000 kms when I purchased it and I'm up to 120,000kms now. I'm on 235/75/15 tires and I cruise the highways at a mellow 100km/h revving at 3200rpms. I get about 500kms on 50L of diesel. My van is certainly due for a suspension overhaul so I'm looking forward to a 2 inch lift all around and 31 inch tires. I'm really happy with the manual, it's got a "light" clutch, shifts smooth, it's nice around the city, I don't off road much (yet). Dammit, I'm totally jinxing myself, but no problems yet. I'm right handed and I really like shifting with my left hand too.
