The only heavy thing up there will be Jerry cans in the back, it will all be light stuff in the boxes. I just want to have the option of parking in small spots (meaning I'd have to remove the tire carrier).

after welding the have it re-powder coated (should be under $100.00) and it will be an easy upgrade to the rack for re-sale...

After looking at it, it is a possibility however re-sale would go down since it would sit too close to most vehicles for there to be room for the tire. As it stands the rack just sits too far out and is too heavy and expensive for it to make sense for my roadtrip.

why dont you do a side swing out? I did a dual on my wagon. but you could easily do jsut one, or even use th eother side for jerry cans, then that is some weight off your roof. and think of the bling factor. I got my bearings from the a place in the states for 45 a piece for pivot points, supper strong. rated for a 35" tyre

A swing would be great but it's too expensive and if I have my bike rack attaches it won't swing. Even if I made it high enough that it could swing over the rack it would block my rear window and would require a lot of custom work that I don't have time for.

All that said, your set-up looks sweet! 8-)
