That is a good idea Noel.
But instead my local inspector is calling him because I met him and the constable at his shop and he looked at the vehicle with her and showed her I complied. She seemed very confused and told me that she would rip up the order BUT I would be stopped again by other officers following orders. So I asked her if I go through this process every time which each officer. She did not have an answer for me. How do we prove we comply which each officer if they are not accepting the inspections we all have in our vehicles?
So my local inspector is calling to make sure there are no changes he was not informed about and what actually was said by Kanga to a police conference last week.
The constable was citing all kinds of misinformation like "RHD are 40% more likely to be in accident" BS. I countered and she did not have much retort. She is just regurgitating ICBC propaganda.
If this is happening all over the province which seems to be the case following IVOAC website, Kanga must get alot of phone calls...

Post from IVOAC website after I posted my experience...

I just spoke to Brian Kangas.
Apparently last week they did an information session for Vancouver Island RCMP traffic officers. The problem here is the officers that were not paying attention walked away not hearing anything other than RHD and lights. Anybody with a legitimately compliant vehicle should issue a complaint about the officer issuing the MVI. A notice and order has to have a specific violation on it, "lights" really is not good enough, they need to site the equipment regulation you are in violation of to you.

How about this.... the next time anyone that is regularly on this site gets pulled over and gets an inspection notice, get the officers Name, any other information you can, and post it here in the registration, compliance area, then we can get ahold of them clear things up, hopefully once we reach what ever staff sargent in each dept , word will get around that if they are looking at the imports, they will know what to look for. and not just blanket us all together.
Im in 100% support of those that are driving around and not compliant getting issued a ticket/inspection notice as Its VERY easy to make your self compliant and have been told right to my face by some that "no one checks so im not paying to fix anything" so if you know of anyone who is not compliant or if your not sure if you are or not, I would be more than happy to spend the 30-45 seconds looking at your van to tell you one way or the other and for free, you dont have to buy anything, I would just be happy to make sure we dont all start getting a bad reputation.

How about this. Why don't we have a sticky post as to what exactly needs to be done to meet inspection. Could we get this in writing from Brian Kangas and have it updated if things change.
Its important for us to know what exactly the requirements are since RCMP do not.
It is getting very ridiculous to say the least. Our vehicles pass inspection and that should be final. As long as we have the papers that should be good enough. We should not have to waste our time or money based on miscommunication between ICBC and RCMP. Its a waste of taxpayer money too.
Frustrating.

A sticky with some picts would be a great idea, and i understand everyones frustration, and not to side with the biased people out there, but with all the vehicles I have seen lately that dont have everything
OR anything done to them but also have the paperwork that says they passed inspection , more and more of us are going to get pulled over until we all take resonsibility to make sure not only ourselves but others are compliant.
Maybe I could smile pretty and get Kathy to volinteer to let us take picts of her van also seeing as she has the domestic style headlights...

If no one else wants to post that I can do it, and we just have to ask Mark to make it sticky (no jokes please) lol

Surely its the inspection shops that are passing these vans that are at fault. They should lose their inspector status or whatever.
Its a bloody simple process and should not require us owners to be inspection experts.
1) you import a vehicle
2) you pass inspection
3) you get insured
4) they leave you alone
I mean this is just f**king stupid and to me it almost smells fishy. How can there be that many imports that are on the road that do not pass inspection? Are there really that many dodgy inspectors?
What's going on?

The sticky would be great outlining what model year needs to have what done to them to be compliant. I say which model year because the older Delica's may not have to be as compliant as the newer ones. For example, I don't think that the 1989s need to have DRLs and for sure would not require a 3rd brake light.
Noel I would be willing to meet up with you and get my van photographed for the purpose of the sticky (recall that you looked at my van and said that it was compliant). Or I can take photos of my van and send them to you, provided I know what to take photos of.

Hi Mark, sure, would love to have your van for some shots, I have some vans coming in right away also, so I was thinking of taking some Befor and after picts so people know what to look for.
I actually had a "dealer" try to talk me into a kei truck the other day , he did not know who I was or anything and was telling me all sort of lies about compliance only has to be done for inspections then you can change it. I wasent going to post about it,but here is what I had down while i was in posting mode yesterday
I was looking for a new warehouse/ storefront here in good old Vic, and was looking at this great looking little import truck, some of you may have seen it, lifted, sweet tires, bla bla bla. then i look close and the owner comes out and asks if I am interested in buying it, He imported it and owns a repair/inspection facility right next door.
So im looking at the truck and ask about the tires, he proudly says he took off the street tires and found some for a ATV yuppers a quad. stamped right on the side wall, FOR OFF HIGHWAY USE ONLY. actually goes over the whole truck and shows me where he took off the reflectors , third brake light, is telling me that they are not needed after the truck is imported. No I did not tell him who I was or what I do for a living, I was only looking at this truck and wondering how many other people are doing crap like this...

if you get one from Can tire, make sure its for a DIESEL< most of them are for gas engines and tie into the the distributer or into a spark plug wire.
there are some out there for the diesel, or you can wire up your own relay to do the same job.

Do I have to wash it?

Sure, I can do either Tuesday or Friday after work if I am going to meet you somewhere. Or if you are out near my work and can drop by I can do it almost anytime this week other than Wednesday as I will be in Duncan. I think that makes sense...let me know if not.
On the topic of compliance if I change my DRLs from being my low beams to the white park lights on the front are there any issues? Currently mine are setup with a relay which works but it is running a lot of current through the relay (I have already gone through one relay) and also my low beams are those PIAA jobs so they are pricey. Meaning I would rather not be running the expensive low beams all the time if I could avoid it. I have seen a park type of light used on other vehicles.
Any thoughts?
