Maybe you need to sit on sunny patio and have a nice cold one.

Oh noes! There are clearly too many shops and parts in BC. My recommendation is that 2-3 of you guys pack up and move to Ontario. I would poop in my hand if a shop contacted me and said: Hey! I'm nearby, and I can help you out!
That's preferable to "I'm 2-3 hours away", or "Shipping that across the country will cost 2X the value of the part"

Not on the island.
Wasn't looking for parts.
Read the title:
What is the policy.

I won't even get into how positive contribution rule would filter out half the posts in this thread including a moderators.
If the positive contribution rule applies to thread posts then circumventing that rule by way of solicitous emails should by extension be considered inappropriate.
Mark, Falco, speak up anytime.

Re: Vendor emails via delica.ca - whats the policy?
Someone not long ago stated quite plainly that if a vendor wanted to communicate to an inquiring mind they should do so via PM and stay out of the forums. To me it's like the milk man.
If I say in a thread "where's a good place to get a thermostat and Sabbir sends me a PM stating that he has some nice ones in stock that he usually lets go for $Y but for me, because I'm such a fine fellow, will give away for $X ~ then I'm okay with that. Sometimes I get completely unsolicited phone calls, text messages, PMs from a number of vendors and it's great to hear from them as I like most of them... If John or Cameron were to call me or PM me with the latest deal going on.... timing kits.... or special deals on ... stuff ~ Great! One, it's good to hear from them and two, I might want it. If they start spamming me with knock off Nike running shoes or I-Phones then I would have a different kind of word with them but if they're coming up with things for my Starwagon... is that not partly why we are here? You know... to compare notes and find out who does what and where to get things? I have had, I think ~ two complaints regarding vendors sending PMs. I have had four complaints about certain vendors not returning PMs...
why, I know not.
Having said all that, of course it's my opinion and not everyone's. So why not sent RMI a polite PM and ask them not to send you unsolicited PMs, &c.?
Falco.
P.S.: We had a Dealer section in Delica Canada ~ but there were a few members that wanted it gone, so we created another dealer section outside DC, but with direct links from DC, called Delica Trader. It's still there, it's available to anyone wanting to use it, it's free. Except for the banner ads, which pay for the moorage fees of the Admin's secret private yacht. FC.

Re: Vendor emails via delica.ca - whats the policy?
That's an interesting example. Personally I would prefer that a vendor did not solicit me in either way because if I don't ask a vendor to contact me, that's unsolicited.FalcoColumbarius wrote:Someone not long ago stated quite plainly that if a vendor wanted to communicate to an inquiring mind they should do so via PM and stay out of the forums. That's a stupid example because, again, I didn't say "where's a good place to get an unsolicited email about something I don't need" I posted a beef and one of his competitors didn't even bother to read the content of my posting and just knee-jerk emailed me in hopes I'd buy some parts. Oh, and he was "helping" me. Last time I checked when you are marketing you are helping yourself.FalcoColumbarius wrote: If I say in a thread "where's a good place to get a thermostat and Sabbir sends me a PM stating that he has some nice ones in stock that he usually lets go for $Y but for me, because I'm such a fine (and he rambles on and on like usual)
I didn't ask for an opinion I asked for a policy.FalcoColumbarius wrote:Having said all that, of course it's my opinion

At this point any more effort would be a waste. But I suppose I already knew that going in. Just confirming my assumption.rezdiver wrote:RichD wrote:You should have figured out by now that when I take the time to post I have something intelligent to say, even if it escapes you at first glance.

And this:
I'm trying to understand what the problem is? You made a beef about one vendor not delivering on there business and another vendor comes to your rescue... is this really a bad thing?FalcoColumbarius wrote:.....but if they're coming up with things for my Starwagon... is that not partly why we are here? We had quite an extensive dealer section in "Vehicle Sales ~ Owner sales, Motor dealer sales, JDM importers" and "Subforums: Sales by Canadian Registered Dealers, Sales by Other Importers, Other Vehicles (Non-Delica), Sales by Private Members".
I believe you were one of the people who wanted all this gone, were you not?

Just because you did something doesn't mean that it was perfect and that nothing more needs to be done or that you even got it remotely right the first time.
I'm done. Good night.

Re: Vendor emails via delica.ca - whats the policy?
I was going to post earlier about my thoughts on this, then I re-read the thread and decided to stay silent. Now I have re-read the thread and think I should say something but I don't think anyone wants to listen to anything - I feel they would rather continue to air their own beefs until they are either spent or feel better.

It was obvious quite quickly that the issue that annoys everyone the most isn't unsolicited emails or PMs....but was with vendors who change their beverage sizings from small medium large to bullshit names like tall grande venti or who just drop the small and make medium the new small and extra-large the new large. This behavior will not be tolerated on delica.ca.RichD wrote:Obviously if I asked for a vendor to contact me I'd be okay with it. However, the email sent to me was in response to my beef post for dealing with Enviroimports regarding fabrication. Nothing to do at all with parts sales.
Look I'm not trying to chastise RMI here. Honestly his message which I quoted was really short and sweet. No harm done.
I'm trying to say there should be a policy around this, a code of conduct. Moreover there should be a place for vendors to do business so that all marketing on here is pull not push.

Ok, I manage the offices in my town of a company spread throughout Thailand offering services throughout SE Asia. A partner in a office down south spends a large part of day crafting personal sounding PM 'conversations' in response to discussions on several large forums, all done in the guise of friendly banter and advice, with the soul purpose of promoting the companies services. He has been doing so for years, and has caused little concern on large commercial forums, but he never makes a direct offer for reason of being accused of spamming the unsolicited.
Honestly RMI straight forward approach, 'help a Delica brother', leaves a better taste in my mouth.
What kind of policy would you suggest?
