I think I understand the "HOLD" mode on my transmission...

Mitsubishi Delica L400 production commenced in 1994 -- After much anticipation, the L400 arrived on Canadian Soil in 2009!

But hold it! It also holds (helps keep) it in overdrive longer when attempting a hill/keeping speed before it gears down.

"The PWR and HOLD switch will only work if the gear selector is in Drive and the OverDrive is switched off."

I don't agree. Both switches work properly when OD is off, except that HOLD will not hold it in OD while lugging anymore, obviously.

HOLD should read ICE. Very handy on the slick stuff.

I did not know this was a three position switch. Now I'll have to go and look on mine to see if this applies to me. Also, very useful to know that you have to disable O/D in order to use it. Good information.

Mine is a 2 position on the Delica. One thing to note is that using it lowers the rpm transmission shift points. I've put 4 tanks of fuel through driving with 'hold' on and adding 140 km to my city mileage. I don't drive it nearly as aggressive. Very cool for my pocket book.

And on our delicas you don't have to disable o/d to use it. Not on our series 2 models.

When my TPS failed causing high rev hard shifts using HOLD eliminated first gear lowered the shift points and allowed the overdrive to kick in.

You don't have to disable OD in the series 1 either.

Somewhere in a previous post it was mentioned. Maybe they were talking about the pajero 2.8. Good for people to know.

Yes, it is mentioned earlier, but I have tried it multiple times on my Series one, and having OD on or off has no effect on the HOLD or PWR functions.

HOLD should read ICE or SNOW.
